what is the crowd like at the pogues gigs??

I had previously heard about how rough the crowds were before I saw The Pogues, but what I had heard was completely wrong. The crowd are fired up and there is a really warm and merry atmosphere. There's nothing like being embraced by a stranger and belting out your favourite tunes. Or going hell for leather in the pit.

... is that the rail that is on a raised level just off the main floor? I think I could see the band from there but don't want to be too far away either! It may be more comfortable than being right at the front.

If it's Brixton you're thinking of, then the raised bit at the side gives a clear view, but you are a long way away from the stage, so it can all feel a bit distant. It's the place where I usually get put. They may or may not let you on there if you're not in a wheelchair or accompanying someone who is. Depends on the mood of the stewards, and how nicely you smile at them.

I reckon for a proper view and full-on gig experience down the front with a beefy minder is a better bet.

I've long thought there's a lot to be said for arranging concert crowds to stand in height order.

Only US venue I have been to that did not allow alcohol "inside the crowd" was Orpheum in Boston, which is no longer hosting any Pogues shows to my understanding.

I went to a San Francisco show last fall, best damn show I've seen ever. At the bar, a bloke was buying extra drinks for fans, I mentioned that we'd drove 200+ miles to be at the show & the last time I saw them was with Joe S. in the 90's. A tear came to the blokes eye, he passed me several drinks then shook my hand as we went inside. I opened up my hand to see he passed me a funny-large-green-cigarette.

We danced in the very back for the whole show, 3 younger fans were nearby, 2 were ladies, it was hot, one guy ripped off his shirt, then the ladies followed suit & the 5 of us danced our brains out in the back of the balcony, we even switched out partners like a large square-dancing ring. It was beyond awesome, Sally Mac is probably the best song I've ever seen live, 300+ blokes on the floor jumping up & down in unison singing loudly. INSANE FUN!!!!

Never done a Pogues show "in a family way", but we did see a couple gigs while my spouse was preggers. It certainly helps to get there early to snatch a good seat. This worked well at the Commodore Ballroom here in Vancouver b/c they have a decent kitchen, so we made it "dinner & a show". If she's visibly pregnant, you can probably have security help you snatch a seat if none are available.
