I haven't received my tickets yet either...but unfortunately we still have a long cold winter to wait.

We're going to meet up at St. Andrews http://www.standrewsnyc.com/
We walked to the Roseland from there last time but we can check with the homies to see if we'll need a taxi for Terminal 5. Mr. Joyce? anyone? anyone?

Dave81, have you decided?

I suppose I better get it in gear eh Kathleen? Starting to give it a good thought, although the reviews that I've read on this joint are less than favorable. But you rail junkies don't care
I'd rather hang out in the open spaces and observe the madness, but it doesn't sound like there are many of these areas at The Terminal. But, what the hell, The Pogues and NYC have never left a regret in '06 or '09, so don't be surprised to see me walk into St Andrews again!!

Hi All from the UK,
:)

Well, we saw they were playing Patricks in NY so booked tickets for the gig and then a holiday around it.

We came to NY last April to see the Specials at Terminal five (i grew up in cov) so we know where the venue is, we were wondering if there is any particular bar nearby thats a kinda pre gig favorite? (bearing in mind the days celebrations i guess they all might be right?). The newest pre gig meetup post on the forum is from the christmas shows in 2010 when we saw them at brixton?!

Had some pints in a bar called the Snug before the gig last time, just round the corner from the venue was nice enough to pop by for another a few days later, in between some pints in various other bars that is. Chances are we'll be walking from the flatiron/26th st area to the venue, assuming we get back to the hotel to freshen up between the parade/bars/gig and don't get tangled up in pints right up until gig time that is.

Really looking forward to this one as we'll have been in NY for four days already, last time we arrived the day of the gig and had been awake over 23 hours and a few drinks down when the band came on, absolute killer.

Hey Phro, B'more is definitely cheaper than DC, as it is traditionally a more working class city. You can take the MARC train (http://mta.maryland.gov/services/marc/) or Amtrak from B'more to Union Station in DC and catch the Metro (wmata.com) anywhere in the city from there. If you're headed by bus from DC to NYC the Bolt Bus is the best way to go (boltbus.com). Get tickets in advance, but they are pretty cheap and more reliable than any of the Chinatown buses.

It also might be cheaper for you to stay out in Montgomery County or in Arlington, VA. There are some cheaper hotels near BWI as well, but you'll be bored out of your skull at night.

PM me if you need.

Cheers for that :)

Last time we came we stayed west 41st between 7th and 8th, am not sure but i think i've seen the inside of that place before, or a bar very much like it.

We'll be walking from 27th and broadway so this is a great place to meet up for us as we're two thirds of the way to the venue then (are you guys REALLY getting a taxi???), my favorite thing about NY is the walking about, so much to see and so many nice little bars. Have been trawling streetview trying to work out where the hell some of the places we went into last time were...

We'll keep an eye on this thread for the meet up times, who's who and that. We're a very easy couple to spot as we really stand out in a crowd, i'm short to average height with brown hair, both eyes, and will be wearing jeans and a jacket, Vicki has long brown hair, all her teeth, and will probably have a coat on, and a bag, maybe a hat if it's cold.

What airport would one fly into when visiting NYC, Terminal 5 to be specific?

Thanks!

Best to fly into Newark NJ and take the Airtrain/NJTransit train to Penn Station NYC. It's a very easy trip.
The other option would be a taxi to from Newark to NYC but I would think a cab from there would be a much more expensive proposition.

laguardia is closest. i'm not flying into ny myself but when i plan a trip out i try getting hotels and tube stations close enough to the venue to keep cab rides cheap. if i'm not mistaken both jfk and laguardia have convenient subway access and pennsylvannia station is within 1 1/2 miles of terminal 5 . if you haven't booked a hotel or hostel there are a few in the vicinity of and in between penn station and terminal 5. as far as the actual subway rides from the airports i don't know how accommodating they might be regarding particular amounts of luggage you might have. see if any hotels near the venue offer shuttle services or look into bus schedules. keep in mind that both buses and subways require tokens or metro cards but you can buy these at the stations. and here's a taxi fare calculator that i think is pretty sharp http://www.taxifarefinder.com/ good luck :)
Lend me ten pounds, I'll buy you a drink.
