Brixton - 20.12.2010

If at all possible, this evening was even better than last night. Fantastic atmosphere. I am glad to say Philip was not tempted to put a Santa hat on - I don't think Ella liked it much either. One definite highlight was Kitty.

And Philip's 1000s.

Was it my imagination or where there loads more people than usual? Brilliant night.

Brixton - Tuesday 21 December 2010

Absolutely awesome last night!

As a veteran of all the Christmas reunion tours (in addition to several before the band split up), I thought the band got better and better each year. This time they surpassed themselves. It was a great gig which seemed to be enjoyed immensely by the audience and the band.

There seemed to be one or two changes from the setlist - don't remember Lullaby of London, Paddy or Metropolis, yet they were on stage for over 90 minutes, and not long to wait for encores!

Thanks to Philip and the rest of the band. It was real treat.

(A couple of footnotes. It seemed mildly bizarre to hear Jesse James (covered on Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash) after the support band left the stage. I liked the version - does anyone know who it was? Also, really liked the folksy record about 15 mins before the Pogues appeared. Sounded a bit like Sharon Shannon, but I didn't recognise the singer so don't think it was.)

That version of Jessie James is by Bruce Springsteen, I think, from the album where he did covers of American folk tunes. Can't remember the title, though.

Amazing show last night, amazing crowd response, band already quite festive - can't imagine how they'll out-festive themselves tonight but looking foward to finding out!

I recall an impromptu version of Goodnight Irene, sung by Terry Woods,in the hotel bar in Ludwigshafen Germany,November 1990,along with several band members, assorted tour and stage managers and 4 or 5 Russians who were part of a troupe touring Western Europe at the time, they knew every word of that song, yet they could not speak a word of English, what a night that was, wall to wall comeradery,oh and that witch Thatcher finally got her cumuppence.
