Yeah, I was laid off for about a year, and was very happy to be back to work after that humiliating time. It's very easy to let depression take you, particularly if you watch any daytime television. After a couple episodes of daytime talk shows of the like where the audience screams, "Thassa man!" or the host says, "You are the father," was nearly enough to make me crawl into a bath and open a vein. And the commercials during these shows drive home the point that you are a loser. I have one weekday off a week with my currently schedule, and I can attest that the one day I wanted to see what was on TV was enough to bring it all back. Now I've pretty much dismantled broadcast television anyway, so it's a moot point anymore.

I'd like to drop a quick note that says:

Thank you American Taxpayers for letting me nibble at the public trough. It's been a challenging year. Being unemployed is soul crushing. The trickle of income from the safety net helped relieve some of the stress and stretch out the nest egg that has sustained the DzM homestead.

I am now, for the near future at least, no longer in need of the public trough. I am happy to be working again, and I am proud to be paying into the public trough with the knowledge that it is helping others that are in the same situation I was. If I could take some of my tax dollars out of stupid spending and direct them toward more funding for unemployment insurance then I most surely would.


Thanks again American Taxpayers. I owe you. And thank you The Company (All Praise The Company) for getting my snout out of the public trough.

Hi!

I went to a Dialogue Circle thingy sponsored by the City at the Musqueam Reserve in Vancouver yesterday. While we heard of appalling injustices the Musqueam have endured, and continue to experience, we also heard about how Chinese farmers somehow appeared on the reserve in the early 1900's and lived peaceably, side by side with the First Nations people. Til Indian Affairs kicked them off. We settlers (non-aboriginals) were very warmly welcomed. An informative, touching day.

Vancouver is blanketed in snow today and for those of us inside, it's a rare and beautiful sight.

Vancouver is blanketed in snow today and for those of us inside, it's a rare and beautiful sight.

It is, and i spent the afternoon out with the kids making snowpeople and sliding down a hill on my son's old skateboard (no wheels or trucks, wored surprisingly well). Back home for hot chocolate & national geographic videos. Homeschooling is THE BEST.

Ah, I remember the days of the kids playing in snow. Vancouver great because it almost always has packing snow - good for snowpeople and forts. (Gotta persuade the kids to provide some grandchildren . . .)

I would like to say a big 'Thank You' to the staff at the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool who took the trouble today to get someone to come and find me just after the interval of the show I saw today (Scouse Pacific). When I booked, I apparantly overpaid for my ticket. I was given an envelope with £5.00 in it. I suppose it was a little 'thank you' to me (in a way) for being a loyal customer.

I am limping, the bottom of my foot is both cut & swollen. This is because i stepped on my daughter's violin that she had left on the floor, next to the couch. Which I had just stepped off of. Practically leapt, actually. The impact was absorbed by the chinrest ($25 for a posh one) which split, cutting into my foot (priceless, but self-healing). The something nice i want to say is that the $2,000 violin is completely undamaged.

Otherwise, the something nice i would be posting here would be that i'm offering a good deal on "massages" to all Medeusans in the greater Vancouver area...

What songs is she playing now? I trust you are past having to listen to the Suzuki numbers by now? Seattle and I are working on "Bile Them Cabbage Down" which is a great little number. Also, I play 'Kitty" just about every time I sit down.
