I can at least say with confidence that nearly all of my expensive/bad show experiences have always been self-inflicted.

Likewise self inflicted, although mine were often fueled by fermented grain products

No, though you may wish to make an exception in Maestro Fearnley's case, as he only ever missed gigs after he was no longer in the band (between 1992 and 2001).

yeah that whole trip had "bad fucking idea" written on it weeks before it even happened...
