It was a long slog but well worth it - I got to the first 3 gigs of the summer tour and it was a great. I wasnt sure how Luxembourg was going to be as nothing had been mentioned on here of anyone even going....but when I went to get my ticket in the afternoon and the security guy looked at me strangely and said it was sold out I knew I was on to a winner. The venue was a perfect standing only size and the band played a brilliant gig - what people have said is true - it did take a little bit to get going and the first few rows of people seemed to be stood with their arms folded observing politely....they didnt take it with good humour being bashed into non stop. Even right in the middle at the front was a guy in a wheel chair. Still if I was in a wheel chair thats where I would want to be I guess. Speedy nearby bar service meant you could nip out and recharge your (plastic) glasses between encores. Loved this gig....
Next day went to Dortmund where I met with some german guys who until last year have been coming to Brixton each year and we took the train to munster. A great day out. I was getting the drinks in at the beer stand and had too many to carry when I was talking to a german lad who was there with his dad - the boy was telling me that his dad still relates the story of when he saw the pogues with Joe Strummer in munster in 1991 (I was there that night too) as being the best concert he has ever been to to this day !!!! Good gig - but I prefer indoor given the choice.
Just got to Amsterdam in time and found somewhere to stay. By my reckoning the promoter must have made this gig pay by selling twice the amount of tickets the melkweg actually holds !! To say it was cosy wasnt even close. The best gig for sound and I have never been further from the front in my life - and the crowd seemed to be going mental. Still never mind should have got in earlier.
I really enjoyed the european feel to the gigs and would definately travel to more. Really pissed off that I couldnt make Drammen this year... Still theres always next year I have been reliably informed .
December is just around the corner
