It will be John's 200th Pogues show. I'm not even sure I've done that many myself.

Brass rubbing in Amsterdam,oh really!I, like most non-English people thought that this was some act of sexual perversion, until i spent 2 terms in a school in Norfolk.Brass rubbing is real and it rocks! If Villajohn is serious,i would love to meet up with him,at the Melkweg perhaps,or maybe the nearest church or cemetary. This guy has done nearly 200 shows, watching the same band?I have seen the NITS[great Dutch band]about 40 times in the last 20 years, but seeing The Pogues 200 times ,i take my hat off to you man.Best bar,by far in Amsterdam is The Blarney Stone, its close to the Centraal station, the Dubliners sometimes drank in there,i believe they played there one time.Tot ziens, from Ad. 8)

There is a Herman Brood,themed/tribute bar in Spui[a street] in AMSTERDAM,well worth having a look before heading to the Melkweg,i saw The Levellers there in 2004,a smashing venue.

Must be one or two other pubs or cemetry gates to meet in A 'dam, or not? There are two at the Warmoesstraat. I suggest we take Dirty Nelley's. Than we take Berlin...

Dan Murphys is not only the nearest IRISH (?) pub to the Melkweg,it is the nearest up anyway, and when I walked by this week, it showed no signs of having shut down. Mind you, it's a smallish place, but indeed literally around the corner.

For anyone going to The Melkweg and has time to spare, could check out the brilliant cd/record stores in Amsterdam[for those who think that downloading and file sharing is where its at, switch off now!] CONCERTO in Utrechtsesraat is my favourite shop on the planet,FAME in Kalverstraat, excellent,my second favourite! There are still quite a few independent shops, though sadly Boudisques and Get Records have closed down. The Blarney Stone is a great bar,as is Wllies aka The Flying Dutchman, immortalised in song by the MAHONES.Nearer the venue,Dan Murphys is sound and there are some great Indian restaurants nearby.I might go to the Pogues at the Milky Way,though i am supposed to be in Florida on that date!

Amsterdam has many fine bars, not just bars full of ex-pats who just spend the entire day[s] watching SKY or Eastenders and not getting out to the REAL Amsterdam that is in the Jordaan,Waterlooplein,or even parts of The Red Light district that is scumbag free.I will be at the Melkweg on August 1,along with my 2 kids[age 20 and 23!] who grew up listening to the Pogues, for them it will be their first Pogues gig,my first was in Loughborough in 1984.I have been to most of their gigs in Holland,i have been living here since 1986.So on August 1,bring it on boys!Hail,hail.....

for those interested in some fine beers from an Amsterdam micro-brewery:
check out Brouwerij het IJ, situated in an old windmill,
highly recommendable

Bloody impressive is right!I wonder if they serve tirimasu in the Melkweg restaurant.Amsterdam for my 200th is a very appropriate venue, but for serious illness,i probably would have achieved that milestone 2 or 3 years ago in a less romantic setting,no disrespect to any of the UK cities,i would definitely prefer Amsterdam to Birmingham, and i am a Brummie bjorn and bread!
