When a band (not just The Pogues) plays the academy they hold an aftershow party, which while technically correct in the sense that it's after the show, is not what most people would regard as an aftershow. Essentially it means they charge you a tenner to get in the pub to hear a couple of bands you're not interested in on the implied understanding that members of the band that just headlined the academy will be in attendance. Which they won't be. I might be wrong and as I said it's only my opinion.

This is broadly true, and it is a growing trend by no means limited to Brixton. For what it's worth, I've never been to one of these "Aftershow Parties" in my life, which is not to say that one or two other Pogues have not found them to be convenient post-show watering holes. I just resent the implication that they somehow have the formal blessing of the Pogues, who frankly could not give a monkey's flea about them, and the veiled hints that the band might be persuaded to follow a two hour show for which it has been well paid, with a surprise ad hoc gig, just for the hell of it, for which it will work for beer.
This is no reflection on "The Logues", to whom I wish only the best.
