My ears are still ringing and I'm not sure if it was the show at Stubb's or the trip after to The Continental Club.

It was great to see Territa again and to meet Phro37 and Little Cupcakes. Frances, yes that Frances spotted us in the crowd and said hello which was really great.

The crowd was superb last night and I think they fueled the band to one of the best shows I have witnessed. Even Jem made a point to thank the crowd which I don't remember him doing in the past.

DON'T miss Justin Townes Earle if you are going to the Houston or Dallas shows as he was a treat and may be my favorite Pogues support act after WEW. I know we will be getting to the Dallas show plenty early.

It should be noted that I have secured Little Cupcakes vote for Obama in 2012.

Great to meet Philip after the show and visit with Darryl again. I did not hear the banter between LC and Philip during their photo however my wife filled me in on a few lines which seemed to follow their on line discussions.

After the show I dragged Territa, her friend Eilene and LC to The Continental Club to see a benefit show for Peter Case of the Plimsouls. I was thrilled to see Jon Dee Graham play his 3 songs and if last nights performance is any indication, his new release which will be out Saturday is a must buy. Also, had a chance to dispel that nasty rumor of James McMurtry being anti-social as he was in the crowd and I had a nice visit with him. James suggested we check out a new CC Adcock project "Little Band of Gold" which features a slug of great musicians. Finished the night with a great little meal just down the road from The Continental at The Magnolia Cafe which McMurtry suggested for a late night snack. Made it to bed at 3:45 am. Glad to have a day to rest up for the Dallas show. See all y'all there...

I called him a Fascist and he called me a Communist. Then I called him "Hannity" and he thanked me for not calling him "Beck". Then we both expressed dismay that there was more than one Limbaugh in the world. 8)

I'm exhausted! What a great show that was. Can't add much to what Clash said... the most appreciative audience I've seen so far, and the band feeling the love... about halfway through the show the crowd ratcheted it up a notch with each successive song... body surfing to Rainy Night in Soho!- so much for my spot up near the rail. Beer cans picked up off the ground and pitched toward the band... and some of them making it onstage. Mr. Woods laughing off getting sprayed with beer! Sooo hot! a little rain wasn't enough! sand and gravel under foot caking on the docs with the rain and making for very sore leg muscles today. Wonderful to see Clash Cadillac and CPoguesfan again - it's been 2 1/2 years since Chicago - and getting to spend time with Little Cupcakes. Phro37 brought his younger brother. and what a surprise to have Frances introduce herself! Seriously, this was probably the best show I've seen so far, except, perhaps, acoustically, but this was outdoors.

Philip, seeing you at the meet 'n greet made it perfect. I hope the rest of the tour goes this well, and that you put Austin in your future tour plans.

I wish I had seen this exchange as CPoguesFan indicated that these "barbs" were made while smiling for the camera which added to the moment.

Agreed. Justin Townes Earle is fantastic. I've had the pleasure to see him live a few times now, including a show in Albany,NY with his dad.

i think he was talking about the fact that the crowd couldn't understand him and that spider became his "interpreter." "too bad if you can't understand me. you're not getting your money back" or something like that. fucking GREAT show. a lite rain during "rainy night in soho." it could NOT have gotten any better!

Well, where to begin about this magical night? First, it was a blast meeting ClashCadillac, CPoguesFan, Territa, Phro37 and bro, and as noted Frances (she GHAB* for those who don't remember). Now that's freaky-Frances, in Austin, happens to notice Territa and Clash in the crowd, and introduces herself (after all the time that had passed). Rescind the ban-hammering, boss.

THE THANKS:

I'd like to thank ClashCadillac and CPoguesFan for their too-kind generosity; guys, I hope I get the chance to host you, and y'all are welcome 'round here any time; I'm sorry I couldn't take another rock show-sounds like it was a blast! Thanks to Philip, for doing the meet and greet and giving me a chance to say "hello" again. Territa's friend Eileen gave me a ride to San Antonio and picked a nice place for an early lunch (but not brunch 8) ), and she's also a very fun person. I don't know how the pre-show venue was chosen, but it was perfect as well.

And special thanks to Territa who was along nearly every step of the way, pretty much driving me everywhere and otherwise making me feel special. Her hospitality was welcoming and generous (and these two days were the last before the deadline for an important project as well!). And Territa makes a mean batch of chili, too. Come out and see the coast sometime Territa.

THE BLURB:

The Pogues' show in Austin that evening transported me as no rock show has before. I was out of my fucking head (in a good way) during my favorite numbers and ended up muddy, drenched, hoarse, sore, and utterly wiped out.

THE DETAILS:

I liked the venue-it kind of reminded my of Knott's Berry Farm with all the exposed wood and the Old West vibe. Perhaps the sound wasn't as clear up at the front, but it was still pretty good, and the mix was great.

Man, it was hot in front of the stage (we were warned of this, and I was incredulous at the time). Now that I think about it, those lights were pretty much aimed right in the faces of those in the front, but whatever the reason, it was at least as hot (maybe excepting Borderland in London for WEW) as any indoor show I have seen. But there was a little rain, and the odd very cool breeze to keep the conditions from being oppressive. My new pair of shoes were shot to hell with the mud, rocks, rain, and beer.

The Pogues were on top form, making the same old songs crackle and burn with (a seemingly refreshed) intensity. The music was tight as always, and the top-hatted singer was on top of it nearly all evening. Not only that, but they each seemed, to a man, to be having a blast up on stage; lots of smiles and laughter were on display.

The crowd was incredible. We were loud, appreciative, and filled with energy and as Territa noted, we only grew stronger as the show went on. I got bounced around quite a bit and got sprayed with beer a few times, but I never felt in any sort of danger. It was like I was part of a tremendous, constantly undulating organism. The crowd was a big factor in the success, as far as I perceived it, of this show.

It lightly rained during "Soho" and "Sally" which was cool if coincidental.

I'll link up to a pic of Philip and me having a laugh as we exchanged those brief words. I'm sure those laughs were at our mutual hyperboles, and who can't help laughing at Beck, anyway? Nice to have made an impression, at the least!

THE END:

I am a lucky man to have seen such a show, and to have met all the fine folks. This was a great show, and a great little trip to Texas. WOW!
