Nice shakeup. Been a while since Transmetropolitan or White City I believe. And Old Main Drag re-appears. Would have loved to have heard those in LA, but would have missed Lullaby and Sayonara. How 'bout just adding songs and leaving everything else  .

Well.... a guy can dream, right?

yup - sure would've loved to have heard those in portland too - but we takes what we can get. i realize the NW was the start of the tour and being ambitious at the beginning of the tour isn't always the safest way to go. esp. if mr. macgowan wasn't 100%.

i sure hope you boys come back to the NW. after reading the SF, SD and AZ reviews, it sounds like everything - set lists and shane's state - was in much better form then pdx and seattle. very excited for all of you pougers who got to witness these shows! I hope to experience this personally the next time around.

thanks for all of your interaction and feedback, phillip. it's much appreciated.

What a night, words cannot do it justice. Everyone on stage was on fire. I gotta ask, who is James Fearnley's tailor, That red suit he wore was classic. As for the "Clobberer", what the hell did he do to his kit mid-set, lose a mike? Phil Chevron is a suave guy, impeccably dressed as usual and had an amazing vocal on Thousands. Shane was in great form, we could see him off side of the stage enjoyinh himself, is it still vodka and orange? Transmet was a hi-light as was White city. Spider was in great form. I hope you had a good time on your first visit to Arizona, it's been a long time coming and will never be forgotten.

James's red suit comes from a Turkish wedding outfitters near Andrew's house in North London. He has to pay $10 each time her wears it, for breaching the dress code (owners of the Straight In The Eye box set may be familiar with the dress code).

Phillip K wrote:I know that I just posted a book, but I actually forgot one question I had for Philip: how did you guys feel about Arizona (the crowd, the atmosphere, the show itself)? Was it one of those experiences where you looked at each other and said, "Man, why haven't we been here before?" or was it more of a "Man, I can't wait to put this state in my rearview mirror?" After attending shows here for 15+ years, I've found AZ crowds to be very hit-or-miss and, occasionally, quite obnoxious. Last night's crowd was great: singing along, jumping around and generally having the time of their lives. Of course, it probably helped that you guys have more infectious energy than a proton with the flu, but was it a good show for you, too?

The crowd seemed a little unsure of us to begin with, and I felt that putting the show back almost an hour [this was because the support bands would have played to an almost empty house if we'd begun on time] helped to exhaust people a little. Also, although "The Old Main Drag" was sublime, we struggled with the other two new-old numbers. However, there is no doubt that by about halfway through the show, Tempe joined the select list of great first-time crowds.

Thanks for your comments and support.

First off, AMAZING show - my wife and I got married this past March and our wedding song was "Rainy Night in Soho," so to have the chance to see the Pogues live was truly a once in a lifetime. Thanks guys for making this trip!

To explain a bit why I think the crowd was a little hesitant at first, I think you only need to go on these boards and look at the comments from some other shows. With Shane, you never know what you're going to get, and it was like there was a collective holding of breaths as the show progressed to see if things would be "okay." Well, needless to say, things were better than "okay."

Shane was his quirky self, giving the crowd a bit of what makes the Pogues truly unique and yet made it through the entire show standing up! I couldn't believe how good he sounded - NOBODY sounds like Shane!

My wife and I left in awe! Thanks again for coming out to the desert and may luck get you out here for another show next year!!

Does Misty Morning ever make it onto the set list. It is (another) great song. I don't get to hear it very often as I have the single on vinyl and my record player has long been missing its needle. Just found it on a Best of CD and it has made me quite teary eyed listening to it again. It is a beautiful song. Don't know why - but whenever I try to recall it in my head, i always veer into Rainy Night in Soho...kind of like how when I do a Welsh accent it ends up going into an Indian.

Shane sounds great can't wait for KC.
And I don't want no grave
Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save

Great to see the setlist get shaken up a bit, man. Sally is a wicked surprise as an opener.
