Well, despite Mr. Chevron's request for mug shots I think there's also a great opportunity here for photo essays. The more I think about this the more I like it.

Take your cell-phone cameras. Take your digital cameras. Take your incredibly expensive SLRs. Go out and shoot your favorite song! What group of images (or single image) from your part of the world says "Rake At The Gates of Hell?" "Everyman Is A King?" "Jack's Heroes?"

For those of you not entirely familiar with the photo essay, a bland definition is:
wikipedia.org wrote:A photo essay is a series of photographs that are intended to tell a story or evoke a series of emotions. They are often accompanied by a written text, which sometimes takes the form of a full text essay, article, or book, and other times is limited to captioning.

I think this could be a really cool project. I might even try to do one or two little essays myself.

Our army of highly trained editors will have the final say about whether an essay will be accepted (we don't have an infinite hard drive to store this stuff on). But please - try! Just be prepared that we may not accept your opus.

I think this is a really cool way for the fans to contribute their own creativity to each other, and back to the band.

Yours is a special assignment Firehazard:

I'm only kind of joking here too. After your tribulations last year I have complete faith in your ability to make a very interesting travelogue (with photos) of getting to the show(s) this year.

Now last year's would have had all kinds of drama. But this year I'm kind of counting on a peaceful, stress-free trip... :?
but then again, transporting the family firehazard around is never that easy. So who knows ...?

"Don't make me pull this van over. DON'T MAKE ME PULL IT OVER! Now let's all just relax and sing some road songs. Who wants to sing 'Hell's Ditch'?"

And unrelated - Thanks go out to Carmen for her photos of James at Alex's Bar with the Filthy Theaving Bastards.

Thanks go out (again) to Carmen, for a pic of James at Newcastle in 2004, and to Javier Rodriguez Sanchez for a shot of the band in a van at Azkena.

Thanks also go to Alex for his continuing numerous contributions. Alex's photo gathering skillz are truly amazing.

the medusa is giving and taking par excellence
By the way is the gallery section on a different server? It's slower browsing on the gallery site, or now it is not even available at all.

No, they live on the same box, pull and push their data from the same database and same hard drive.

The gallery software is still in it's X.0 release, so there may be optimization problems yet to be ironed out of the code. It will stabelize over time with new releases, etc.

And the now daily thanks go to Alex for more contributions covering a range of promotional, live, press, etc; and to Javier for a large collection of badges.

Thanks gang! We're now over 1,100 items, up from ~820 when the gallery opened just a few weeks ago. You guys (and the team of highly trained editors) kick ass.

Is that Darryl Hunt looking like Neil Young in the Akzena van picture?

Great work DZM with the gallery! Do you think it would be possible to add a commentary section so you could post short comments to the pictures? I think that would be a great feature.

And while were on the "who's that" topic, in The Fans: Miscellaneous pictures, is that Johnny Knoxville in the blue shirt, or possibly his evil twin?
As the picture is untitled, does anyone know anything about it?

This picutre has also been taken there:
