POGUES - North America, March 2009

Post Sat Mar 21, 2009 4:02 am

So much tonight. Even with all the problems I encountered(fight, shirtlessness, etc) one of the best nights ever. Thanks to the band for being absolutely on and of course to Lesh for so generously getting me a ticket when I thought all hope was lost.

Amazing show. I must take time to compliment Philip on a pair of equally amazing shoes.

Brilliant. Welcome back to Boston. Shane looked great - even (gasp) seemingly thinner and (more or less) right on from the first note...

Mr. C, it's GREAT to have you back and in top form. Your voice sounded wonderful during "Thousands" and those shoes kicked some serious ass (and I am NOT a fashionable man, trust me.)

"Cotton Fields" was a true surprise - well done.

Another great start to spring with the Pogues. Though my legs are kiiling me from standing, I must say that I do like the new HOB...

What an awesome show tonight....I must say the House of Blues is one hell of a venue, really good sightlines and a great atmosphere, CHEERS TO BOSTON! Shane was spot on and a little, well i should say a lot inebriated as would be expected but still a great performance by him and the rest of the band was equally amazing....Suunsyide of the Street and Fiesta were a couple highlights of the show but really the whole show was top-notch.....MOST of the bands out there today should look to bands like the Pogues to see what real music and real showmanship is.....cheers! awesome show, i'm pis*ed i don't have tix for tomorrow now, this show has left me wanting more!!!!!!!!!

What a great show...walked in as they were coming on...perhaps 9:25 or so. Went right up to the front as I always do at Pogues' shows. I was that bozo with shades on all night. I absolutely loved not seeing cell phones in the air all night. I was shocked to not see people absorbed by recording the show. Nice bunch up in the front, a bit more mellow than most perhaps. Shane's singing was spot on. The guitar and drums were on point, Spider providing excellent back ups, and the rest of the band superb. That's alot of compliments in one post. Anyone with a set list? They did a song from Peace and Love I think, that I was not expecting..the memory is a bit thin, but want to remember what it was. that's right Cotton Fields...

Corey, you're dead on with Cotton Fields. It sounded as clean as the recorded version. What a wonderful evening. Looking forward to meeting some of the band members this evening. Thanks again, Boys!!!

More mellow than most? I got punched in the eye, kneed in head and the shirt ripped right off my back during the first song

Amazing show from the beginning. The acoustics were surprisingly good. The instrumental and vocal harmonies were wonderfully discernible, but none were too overbearing--beautifully balanced. The set list was as close to perfect as it could be, though I will always miss "Young Ned." Never heard "Rainy Night in Soho" with the touches Terry Woods added. Almost spellbinding.

Other high points but there are too many to list. In no real order at all----

Philip sounding and looking fantastic, and, of course, in a suit to kill--with back-up sartorial splendor of Spider in black and Jem in sparkling purple

Terry's fingers blurring as they sped impossibly fast across the frets

"Thousands Are Sailing"---tight, loud, and, as always, touching

The tightness of the band coupled with their good moods and their obvious enjoyment of the night.

Kitty

Geezum, don't know why I tried to summarize it; it was too good.
Wish I could have glimpsed those shoes everyone's talking about.

Dunno when I've heard them play so well or sound so good.

In fact, they're just regular-rooster correspondent Brogues - black and white - but I'm pleased they have met Medusans' high standards.

THOSE WERE BUSCUIT LIDS I THOUGHT WHICH MADE IT VERY VERY HUMOROUS FOR MOI. SO I THOUGHT. I WOULD OF
LOVED TO HANG THAT AT WORK.

Well, since we are talking fashion, where did Spider get that frock coat?

Fantastic show as usual by the way.
