I'm right in Boston and, yes, it is freezing-ass cold here (single digit temps last night/early this morning, and it doesn't feel ALL that much warmer now - probably high teens/low 20's)... However, they're talking about a big-time warmup coming... Gonna be in the 40's by Friday and mid-50's for Saturday/Sunday/Monday... They're talking about more of a springtime weather pattern settling in... Let's hope! But this is Boston, after all... Who knows what it will be like by March 20th/21st? The weather can change drastically in 5 minutes around here, let alone 2+ weeks! I'm really hoping for a great stretch of weather from now through the Pogues shows because I've got Flogging Molly coming up on March 10th and The Dropkick Murphys on March 12th and then, of course, The Pogues on the 21st... Keeping my fingers crossed! By the way, if people are looking for a cool place close to the HOB for before the show, I highly recommend a relatively new place (maybe been there 2 years, maybe less), The Lower Depths... It is on Commonwealth Ave., maybe a 5-minute walk from the venue... I especially recommend this place if you appreciate good, off-the-beaten-path beers... They also have pretty damn good food... The beers can be a little pricey, but I still definitely recommend it... My girlfriend and I discovered it last year after a Red Sox game and we both loved it... Only problem is it is not really a cool Irish pub, like I associate in my head with The Pogues... Best Irish pub in the area is probably Crossroads, which is on Beacon Street... This is a bit farther away, but I would be surprised if it weren't a main spot for people to go before the show... Great pub... Anyways, I'm looking forward to the show and I'm counting down the days! Later... -Paul
I am going, I am going, where streams of whiskey are flowing...
