pogues available for special events?

is this for real Philip? I've read that these things can be more lucrative than a "regular" gig...would you draw the line at some rich socialite wanting you to play his trophy wife's birthday party?

AHA! Our sordid, corporate cocksucking alternative life exposed at last!

I know nothing about this listing, and am slightly surprised by it, but to be honest, Rich Socialite´s money feels as good in my pocket as yours does, better perhaps, as he had to do less to earn it.

It reminded me that in our extensive touring in 1985 and 1986, we did a few May Balls at Cambridge and Oxford which never made it to the official gig listings but paid extremely well. May Balls, for the benefit of our colonial cousins, are bacchanalian festivals where young students learn, for perhaps the first time, that they can´t hold their drink and are useless at sex. It was fascinating to watch, as another tuxedo hit the mud or another designer ball gown was shredded in the moshpit. These people, I would muse, will be RUNNING this country by the time I´m 40, what a terrifying prospect. And I was right. On both counts.

But dammit, that is so unfair. In my college days (at neither Oxford nor Cambridge, I'd have to add), we never managed to get anyone bigger than Alvin Stardust to play at the ball. Though, to be honest, it was a good few years before The Pogues existed. And good old Alvin did put on a pretty fine show.

Ah well. Guess that's why none of us ever did get to run the country.
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

Then again, Alvin´s old manager Lord - Maurice - Levy, came pretty close, as Tony Blair´s extortionist-in-chief.

Wow! Book the Best are clearly really well connected. The first page of the soul section features both Al Wilson and Billy Preston. Without being disrespectful to two great performers, they are going to need a shovel!

I get the impression that Book The Best has no real affiliation with anyone but will, for the right price, gladly call The Pogues or U2 or anyone else there's an interest in as a broker and say that Lord So and So or Luck Sucksalot wants to hire their band for a cool million...
