I just received a newsletter that had available the Pogues, Japan 2005 Tokyo Shibuya Ax gig.. audience recording on the BTZ label - silver disk.. I haven't heard it yet but will try to suss out a copy in Tokyo this week.. the title of the disk is Pogues not dead (terrible title) and let you know if it is any good..

Umm. What? This is a total non-sequiter.

But I'm willing to try parsing this. Let's see if I get it right.

<b>Edit:</b> I suck. Teach me to read and write at 2:00am. I swear I thought that said "skateing," not "stateing." Now the whole message is ruined. It all hung on that one word. Poop. At least we got "The Pogues: They're All Mammals" out of it.

By "Kinda skateing the obvious" my first thought was that you were saying that they (the "producers" of the new boot) were skating around an obvious truth. But somehow that didn't make sense to me.

"why not for the christmas gigs" just really confused me for a moment.

"'The Pogues' none of them are black" also confused me. I somehow thought you might be suggesting that WEA start marketing the band as a white supremecist group or something.

Then I tried giving the parsing another shot and came up with this intended meaning (paraphrased):

"The Producers of this new bootleg are stating the obvious with the title, 'Pogues Not Dead.' Maybe for the next one they could use another remarkably obvious observation: 'The Pogues: They're All Mammals' or 'The Pogues: They're the ones with that guy with the bad teeth and recorded that christmas song that time.'"

I'm nearly certain, now, that that's what you were saying.

'The Pogues: They're All Mammals'

it's a killing title. Wish you were heard by producers.
(I was going to place here some dozens of "" but refrained, trying to serve as an example of decent poster. Anyway read that post as if they are all here, dozens of them)

There might just be something to be said for making this clear, to avoid any confusion over the whole Spider thing. Don't want to go scaring off any arachnophobes...

Please do not use these fora to make arrangements for swapping/selling boots. There are ample other ways for you to contact each other that do not put me or this web site in danger of receiving a "Cease and Desist" letter.

That aside - we all awate your report on the quality of the boot Mr. HolySpook.

Just listening to Pogues Not Dead, which I figure might come from the saying Punks Not Dead or maybe it is just bad english.. anyways it is quite decent for an audience recording..78 minutes long and Shane comes through nice and clear and the music isn't drowned out by screaming voices.. there doesn't even seem to be that annoying drunk guy you always hear on Pogues boots.. saying that sometimes the sound fades in and out especially heavy bass lines. The front artwork is nice, a large pic of Shane screaming into the mic with smaller pics of the band around the outside. The back cover has small pics of the band and inside is an audience shot from the balcony.. they even do a new song: the boys from the country hell  If you want more info about the cd just email me..

Mr C., ignoring the whole bootleg discussion, do you ever listen to the mp3 files of your concerts that are sometimes linked to on this forum? i.e. the two versions of 1000s.

A little clarity is important here:

At this time there are no MP3 (or other encoding formats) files associated with these fora. There are, however, MP3s (and other formats) sometimes linked to from these fora.

Just need to be clear about that.

Um.........I don't like listening to recordings of concerts later as a general rule, unless there is a reason to do so, like the Brixton 2001 live album, which I heard dozens of times between rough mixes and final version. Paul Scully used to very occasionally give us off-the-desk tapes to hear in the mid-to-late 80s if he thought we could learn something from them about our performance.

In truth, all the pleasure, alchemy and creativity is in the moment of playing the music. Once the moment is gone, it can never be experienced quite that way again. So you move on, you look forward to the next show.
