Re: POGUES - North America, March 2009

Post Fri Nov 21, 2008 5:42 pm

Is there any clarification on the Boston venue?

The presale said it was in Cambridge, which is the existing HOB, but supposedly there is a new HOB going in at the old Avalon near Fenway. All the talk was of a new venue, but that conflicts with the ticket site.

Thanks

It is the new venue, the refurbed Avalon.

The Cambridge HOB closed in 2003 - would have been way too small for the Pogues.

Just got my tix for the HOB Boston, baby! Saw the last show in the old Avalon (Dropkick Murphys) and gonna get to see what I have to assume is gonna be one of the first shows in the new and improved venue! Can't wait for March 21st!

Boston's current "House of Blue's" venue is the Berkely College Performing Arts Center. I've read the new venue should open soon but am skeptical seeing as multiple Google searches yielded squat.

I saw the tour dates and felt as if I've been punched in the stomach.

I've a slew of people who would join me in another night of Pogues revelry!

Don't fret, in recent years the Philadelphia shows (as well as some others) weren't confirmed until the end of December. Just keep checking back.

st pattys day in DC? that seems odd. almost sacrilege. I already had the flight booked. now I'll have to change that. I dunno. last year was fab in NYC. just seems weird that the pogues would even want to be in DC on pattys day. its such a sterile town. it has no real vibe.

The only dates likely to be added at this stage are extra nights in cities where there are already shows, sorry. (For this purpose, Baltimore (a maybe) becomes the same place as Washington DC as we don't have to move hotel.)

DC will be the rockingest place in the whole USA next March 17, I promise you that. Besides, what other chance will we have to celebrate your choice of President with you? [Yes, I know, we could have played Chicago, sorry about that, Chi people. He's the world's Obama now.]

New York has a whole St Patty's weekend this year. We like to mix it up a bit. Sorry you had to change flights. Me too.

This is awesomenews. And what a wonderful 3 months there is to look forward to -- Ray Davies at in DC on 12/8, Bush leaving the White House in January, and the Pogues show in March. Sometimes, life is very very good.

The 9:30 Club was great choice. It's a bit smaller than other venues I've seen The Pogues play in, but I've seen a few shows at 9:30 since I moved out here this year (Richard Cheese, Cowboy Mouth, Rev. Horton heat, Toadies) and I can't think of anything bad to say about the club. Plus, they have Guinness on tap. I'd really suggest taking the Metro to this show. They have limited event parking (usually $10) but it fills up fast. There's a Metro stop only a couple blocks away.

Is it too early to speculate on the opening act? I may have rambled about it before, but I'd love to see Ike Reilly open again like he did for the 2008 Chicago shows.

I saw Ike Reilly in St. Paul and chatted with him after the show in the local watering hole. I told him of my love for the Pogues many months before he opened the Chicago shows. I like to think that our conversation was in the back of his mind when he made the commitment.

Since Ike is local to Chicago I would not expect to see him open any Pogues shows this spring however one can always hope. :)

Well, I don't know how I missed the pre-sale news, but you can imagine how shocked I am to have just learned of it today. I'm going to see the Pogues on St. Paddy's Day....again. 8) :D :D :D :D

it wont be too bad. my 15 year old nephew will come and see you now. st pattys day last year was a bit wild. with all the drunken revelry. he's a fan. he plays in one of those irish rock band thingies, ala DKM and Flogging Molly. I introduced him to the Pogues, but he picked up on the rest himself. including discovering the cheiftans, dubliners and such. pretty neat how the pogues have launched this little sub culture thingy and reintroduced a style and genre of music which most people wouldnt have heard otherwise.
