Finally had time to give it a good solid listen.Like it alot, though I really dug the brooding intensity of Agony. You're right, this one is much more upbeat.Good stuff as usual...great band

Tried another retailer this past Sunday. A brand new Future Shop. "They didn't send it to us"

Looks like I'm gonna have to order it online.

It looks like this album is quite hard to find. Weird...

Not so weird...for a new release maybe, but most of the time I cannot find what I am looking for on the shelf.

It's almost like they (and other bands) would rather I download their albums illegally.

Make it available, and I'll buy it. Same goes for the Pogues box. I still haven't picked it up. I don't think there are ANY Pogues albums on any local shelves right now.

It goes against the grain not to support your local record store but often the online route is the only way to get the more hard to find stuff. More often than not it also works out alot cheaper.

By the way The Tossers are on Victory Records which has a online store [See Link]

I could either go to the local record store and pay $21-$25 for it, or grab it off ebay for $5.00.

Makes no difference to me...perhaps it makes a difference to the record company? Guess not.

What pisses me of most? Well, if they aren't even selling the album here...what are the chances they'd ever tour here?

Doesn't anyone in the music business have any idea that the major traditional music in Halifax, Nova Scotia, or the Atlantic Provinces is CELTIC music (Or rather, Irish and Scottish music)?

Haven't they ever heard of The Rankin Family? Ashley MacIsaac? Natalie MacMaster? Buddy MacMaster? John Allan Cameron or Rita MacNeil? Just to name a few from Cape Breton, home of the week long Celtic Colours Music Festival.

Hell, even the Chieftains have performed here not to mention Terry Woods and Philip Chevron (with The Mahones & Peelers).

It depends where you live I guess. Here I can have mostly anything I want, even though it's not an English-speaking province. I had to order the pre-Victory Tossers albums though, because Thick does not distribute in Canada I think. But I can get anything on a big-enough label. But you are in Canada too, so it's weird that you have problems getting records, whereas in Quebec we have everything that isn't TOO underground. :P

I don't think we could call traditional music in French Canada Celtic music, but it certainly is reminiscent of Celtic music. Many parts of the new Tossers album reminds me of old French Canadian folk songs. Especially the last part of the second instrumental (forgot the name), a Quebecer could have written that.

As far as Quebec (Montreal) goes, the only act that comes to mind is Liam Callaghan & the Water Of Life in terms or Celtic music (they had an album with a song I could swear was about Shane).

But no, French (Canadian) music is not Celtic music. But a lot of traditional music from different cultural groups share some elements. In nova Scotia, it would be more specifically described as Acadian (French) traditional music.

But even the most traditional American 'country' music has roots in celtic music.

Anyway, the selection of music here gets worse and worse everyday. We used to have a very large HMV on Spring Garden Road in Halifax. Since the mid '90s it has shrunken to about 1/3 of its original size. Case in point, the large music stores in Boston are now closed (Virgin, HMV (?)). Up until about a year ago we had the last remaining Sam The Rocord Man store in Canada as well, it lasted about 10 years after the rest of the company went belly up.

Anyway, what can ya do? If all that other people listen to is garbage, that is all that is going to be available.

But it's like I said. If they don't even have the album available for sale here, the likelyhood of them actually touring here is minimal. Instead we're stuck with the Rolling Stones, Elton John, That country singer who is married to the actress (?) and a host of other top names I've forgotten.

I never said it was, I merely said that it sounds a lot like it. I've got an English-speaking friend who went to some music festival in Ontario a couple of months ago. A French Canadian folk band played there. She's not familiar with French Canadian music, so after the show she asked the singer of the band why they were playing Irish music if they were from French Canada. So anyway he had to explain it all to her. But for an untrained ear, it's really easy to make that mistake.

so, where the hell are the Tossers now anyway? I used to get subscription emails but those stopped months ago. Does anyone know if they are touring/making another album/breaking up/getting back together, or what? Thanks.

They just released a new album. Which is pretty good.

You would have had the answer if you had read the posts above yours too. ;) But I suggest you take a look at their MySpace, it is updated way more often than their officiel website.
