after waiting for more than two years, this is SO fucking disappointing about the DVD - philip, can't the pogues release this themselves? - who cares if it's a bit murky?
thanks!

dear philip - this is a request about a perfect gift for my loved one !! - could you please say if there is any realistic chance of the nokia dvd being released by warners or the pogues themselves by september 2009?
may the christmas shows be full of blessings ....

I would think the chances of it coming out by September 2009 are virtually nil, sorry. Thanks for the good wishes.

No DVD - Unprofessional pogues

Post Sun Oct 26, 2008 6:12 pm

Am I the only one out here who is outraged by the Pogues telling us for two years that there will be a live DVD, only then to suddenly turn around and say that is has been canned because of "murky lighting". I have travelled vast distances to see the Pogues, cause I love them and their music, but a couple of my friends, who dont have the cash, were counting on this DVD to at least get a taste of the incredible live experience since the 2001 reunion. Now this. I think the Pogues have let an awful lot of fans down and the excuse of Shanenot wanting lights shining in his eyes is just unbelievably lame and unprofessional.

So you're complaining that fans were told of an in-development project that was ultimately shelved? There are many, many projects in the Entertainment Industry that get started and are never finished. Are you saying that you prefer not to be told of projects that might happen rather than face the possibility of disappointment if they don't materialize?

If you don't like the reason, take it up with Shane.

It would be so much easier for us not to share information and plans with you at all. That can be arranged if enough people want it.

If I had a tenner for every David Bowie project in the 1970s that was announced but never materialized, I'd have................oh, let's see............£300.

Your reaction, guys, reminds “please, wipe your feet” – “I can not come at all !!!” exchange.
Let guest correct me if I am wrong but looks like he has no problems with being informed about new projects. His problem is the way he and other fans have been being informed about all developments of this particular project. If I got it right the guest is curious why it took two years and a half (with assumed release date re-assigned thrice) to realize that lights were poor in fact.

P. S. Dear Guest! Bright lights shining into eyes hurt indeed. It's a great method to refresh one’s memories and untie tongues. Repressive organs all over the world are aware about this property (which together with no traces left makes it a really unique and effective means) and have added it into their arsenal ages ago. Dunno why management is reluctant to apply it to their clients – no forgotten lyrics, no slurring any more… I blame their stupid humanism and unprofessionalism.

I´m also annoyed that we won´t get this live DVD but don´t blame The Pogues  There´s always a record company decision behaind releases.

In which case Guest assumes a level of competence and cooperation at Brothers Warner that would probably surprise even Madonna or Prince. Thank you, Macrua, you have helped me decide. There will be no more sharing of information about imminent or hoped-for projects until there is a firm release date by the Brothers Warner or whichever other corporate monolith has been appointed to help us market our work. I will no longer respond, in good faith, to questions about any planned releases. That way, there can be no disappointment if something goes wrong.

It's The Pogues we're talking about here, people, not the fucking Jonas Boys.

"Whaaa. Whaa whaa."

Guest doesn't like hearing of things in the pipeline and then having some of those projects not come to fruition. I prefer knowing what's in the pipeline even if much of it will never see release.

I enjoy knowing what's being worked on, being able to voice my (often not very valuable) opinions about the projects, and to somehow feel as though the group I'm interested in (be it The Pogues, or a movie, or some artist's enclave at Burning Man, or any other thing) is giving me a chance to peak behind the curtains. I am fascinated by the machinery that makes magic happen, and I am just as thrilled at seeing why the machinery breaks down as when it it produces something brilliant (though of course it's extra better when the machinery DOES produce an artifact in the end).

I resent it when whining and whinging from a minority puts at risk my ability to peek behind the curtains.

i second that.

i think it is a shame that the dvd seems to never see the light of day but i don't know who's to blame...

but on the other hand i'm a curious little ceili family member and journalist that wants to know what goes on behind the scenes...

cheers !!

thanks macrua! - that was exactly my point, i am baffled that it took TWO full years for the pogues/warners to realise that they cannot release the dvd because of poor lighting - of course it is wonderful to be told of new projects, i just find the reason for this cancellation extremely lame. equally, i have always admired philip chevron's willingness to log in to this site and share information with fans, so i'm a bit surprised at his rather petulant reaction - surely you can understand the REASON for the disappointment, philip? and i know from my admittedly small pogues network around the world (around 20 people or so) that they are all dismayed thatthe pogues just can't seem to put a dvd together. this is one of the great great live bands of all time and all fans have to enjoy is a town and country dvd from 87 .....

There was a DVD being put together? Sorry mate, nothing I know about. You must take care not to read too much into these half-assed rumours in future. Half-assed rumours are strictly for the Jonas Boys.

I think the point is that the only reason we knew of a dvd being released is because one of the band was generous enough to share up coming projects with us. Its no ones business but the bands why they do or do not go ahead with various projects and can think of very few bands where two or more members interact on a forum on a regular basis. As for the excuse being lame well what do you think the real reason is? The band can't be arsed??? Or do you think poor lighting is not a valid reason to shelve it? So the next thing is its released and everyone criticises the band for releasing any old crap to make cash. I am disapointed but its not the end of the world. You say you cant understand philips reaction well its probably because you have come on accusing him of 'lame' excuses when all he has done is share with us a professional discission that has been made. Anyway your friends need not dismay as the Pogues are playing various venues this christmas and some have tickets left. So although that would mean plane tickets and hotels etc etc there are many opportunities to see the pogues

Yes, but thanks for sharing........

We could, perhaps, have had a band member burned at the stake when the release of the box set was delayed by the record company.

I am now naffed off that Mr C will no longer inform medusans of planned projects in case they don't come to fruition; which might thereby cause outrage to non-medusans.
