Ok, it's not great news. Unfortunately, based upon the 4-song sample we allowed them to see, Warner Video have decided not to go forward at the moment with the DVD of the Nokia shows, though they mention they will do at some distant point "in the future". The main problem we have filming our shows, and Warners were not slow to point it out this time, is that Shane hates having stage lights shining directly into his eyes. Alas, though Ian, our great lighting designer, has found creative and interesting ways around this problem over the past 7 years, we have not been able to solve it sufficiently to avoid the inescapable fact that our 21st century shows just look murky on video. The problem could, I'm sure, be solved by washing the venue with bright floodlights, using the stage lighting to add tone and mood, but this is probably not very fair to the audience at the actual show, who have come to see a Pogues show, not the Blackpool Illuminations.
Sorry. We'll try again sometime, I'm sure.
The Brothers Warner's music division, meanwhile, has confirmed it will soon be deleting the widely-racked Very Best Of The Pogues CD. It will be replaced as a stock item, from November onwards, by a single-disc version of The Pogues: The Ultimate Collection, which also no doubt means that Live At The Brixton Academy will turn up as a single CD at some point in the future.
