Our gallery has been enriched with eight new pics:
http://www.pogues.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=23331

Sean Laffey, Cashel photographer and an editor of Irish Music Magazine, was shooting Shane during his performance at The World Fleadh (together with Sharon Shannon, Dassie O'Halloran, Damien Dempsey and others) and kindly agreed to share some of his photos with us.

Those who look for bigger images can search either his site
http://www.redbubble.com/people/tipptoggy

or the forthcoming issues of Irish Music Magazine.

It was a great gig with in Port Laois and Shane was indeed in great form. I've put a film on You Tube of the man himself singing 'A Thing Called Love' with Joyce Redmond. I think it's a Johnny Cash number but I'm sure someone will point out if it's not.

"Having not taken a shot worth keeping in over 2 hours, I went to the main hotel, where the press office was, for a coffee. On the outside steps, I passed a guy being interviewed for radio, and did a double take when I saw it was Shane MacGowan, of The Pogues. I waited a couple of minutes for the interview to finish and asked if I could take a quick shot of him. A quick shot turned into about 20 shots, with Shane doing poses against the hotel wall.."
And here you are, lucky guys, with an opportunity to amuse yourself with some great shots: Stephen Power, the photographer who encountered Shane outside that Portlaoise hotel, generously supplied us with results of that photosession.

A gentle reminder by The Kerryman:

Musical bill rich in Irish talents

SATURDAY, August 23 will see one of the most exciting and engaging line-ups to ever perform at the Dome take to the stage, with the legendary Sharon Shannon as the main attraction.

One of Ireland’s best loved traditional musicians, Sharon Shannon is known across the globe for her magical ability and talents and the County Clare native, with her ‘Big Band’ are set to rock the Dome in one of the most eagerly anticipated musical events to hit Kerry this year.

Having sold millions of albums across the world, Sharon comes to Tralee hot on the heels of her success in the charts with Mundy on the number one hit ‘Galway Girl’.

Sharon isn’t the only legend that will grace the stage on the Dome that night, she will be also joined by none other than the infamous Shane McGowan, another singer who has gained notoriety for his talents all over the world, as lead singer of The Pogues and as a talented singer/songwriter in his own right.

A national treasure, Galway singer Dessie O’Halloran will also perform on the night. A contemporary talent, Declan O’Rourke is also Dome bound, bringing with him his own unique brand of music.

Declan O’Rourke used to be one of Ireland’s best kept secrets, but rave reviews for his debut double platinum album, ‘Since Kyabram’, a growing international fan base and an enviable collection of eminent devotees, including Paul Weller and Snow Patrol, are rapidly changing that.

The line-up is completed with Jon Kenny, one of Ireland’s most enduring comedic talents, who is sure to have the masses rolling in the aisles. Sharon Shannon and her Big Band will perform in the Dome at Fel’s Point, on Saturday August 23, and will be joined on the night by Shane MacGowan, Dessie O’Halloran and Jon Kenny.

Tickets are on sale now at the Rose of Tralee Festival office for only €36. Those interested in attending are advised to secure their ticket as soon as possible as they are going fast.

Showbiz has always belonged to the most extreme activities. And (paraphrasing Philip) some popular music stars are safer to escort than others.. 8)
