mike1 wrote:The Dungloe show was in the main street as Philip suggested. Sometime during the day a lorry blocked off the top/upper end of main street and the whole band played from the side of the lorry/stage-it was a tight fit. It was a great show- audience from 8- 80 years young. The only gig i've been to where you could do your shopping in Mace at the same time.
Shane sang Irish Rover, Rainy night in Soho-changed to Dungloe appropriately and Fiesta- he came on stage with Joey Cashman, which is a name I've heard of over the years, but I don't know anything specific. Last time I saw Shane was at the vast Manchester Central last December- had a cracking view last week- close to the stage and Marys!
By the way, Donegal has some of the most beautiful beaches ever. Go if you ever get the chance.
Ah! So you made it, Mike?! A load was taken off my soul

Some reviews:
WOMAD: "
Shane McGowan of The Pogues - pissed as a fart, but we didn't give a shite."
"...
Shane MacGowan lost his voice years ago – in alcoholic mixers rather instrumental mixes – and as admiring I am of his timeless canon of London-Irish songs, his way-beyond-tiresome cartoon drunken Mick performance was an (albeit extremely well-received) blight to Sharon Shannon's ground-shaking Friday night ceilidh..." -- by conmurphy, World Of Music
"
Over at the Siam tent the Ceilidh with Sharon Shannon and special guests Mundy and Damien Dempsey had everybody moving - but the appearance of Shane MacGowan nearly blew the roof off the place, a festival high spot" -- safeconcerts.com
Mary From Dungloe: I remember the festival fondly from my childhood when there was always a great atmostphere, however it has been absolutely rubbish over the last few years. This year the old magic of it was well and truelly back, Shane Mcgowan, Sharon shannon, Mundy and crew were a triumph- and i think there was a vibrancy back as a result of this 'younger' focus. -- Thumpette
The World Fleadh: "
The show was a bit weird for me, I was in the pit all night, which was great for photos, but the sound was really bad, the bass bins were on the floor, and the whole place was vibrating, I couldn't hear any of the top end of the mix as that was thrown out over our heads. But the audience loved it, so I guess they heard far more than I did." -- Sean Laffey of
Irish Music Magazine. (look for his review, guys!)
