According to Peter from Shanemacgowan.com (an eye-witness), Shane sang South Australia and The Leaving of Liverpool in London (the 3rd of the Rogues Gallery shows), and also appeared (with harmonica) on What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor and Boney Was a Warrior.

I went last night - not sure what the first song was that Shane did, but he played harmonica on it. He kept turning the harmonica over in his hands as I don't think he ever convinced himself it was the right way up. For all that he got a decent noise out of it - the song was meant to be a bit of a racket anyway.

He later did South Australia, with most of the rest of the night's guests backing him (including Suzanne Vega and Tim Robbins, the actor). It was a great shouty version. Tim Robbins played guitar and sang with Shane on the Leaving of Liverpool, which was my highlight of the night - Shane sang all the verses and the rest of the Rogues joined in on the chorus - it got a huge cheer and Shane looked like he was having great fun.

What shall we do with the drunken sailor was a cacophony - Shane added howls and harmonica squeals.

All in all it was a great night and Shane was on good form, merry as a pirate.

The Rogue's Gallery album version of 'What Shall We Do With the Drunken Sailor' was also a cacophony (it was done by David Thomas from Pere Ubu), though I imagine rather different from last night' version.

A really enjoyable night. About 3 3/4 hours of non stop songs. Filmed clips of South Australia and Leaving of Liverpool, which I'll try and put up on You Tube in next couple of days. Will post links when done

With Gavin Friday and Ed Harcourt.

What Shall We Do With the Drunken Sailor was an unrehearsed live improv with David Thomas, Keith Moline, Gavin Friday and Shane. I couldn't get them all in one picture together:

Check the set for more.

Hi everyone. I'm new here. Didn't know this place existed! I was fishing around on the net to see what people were saying about the Rogue's Gallery show and bumbled my way in! What a great forum you have going here!

Anyway, though you might like to see my film of Shane's performances at the Barbican on Monday:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJBmQBax484

It includes all of The Leaving of Liverpool, most of South Australia and all of Boney Was A Warrior, with Shane playing harmonica. 10 mins in all.

I also got Shane's appearance with David Thomas on What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor? which I may post later.

Great video. I'd love to see the 'Drunken Sailor' one with David Thomas.

Thanks! I've posted a montage of shorter clips from Rogue's Gallery this morning:

I'll post Drunken Sailor (in full) later this evening.

Your photos are amazing, by the way!
