Malcolm had set up the sex pistols so bernie needed a group to compete with malcolm and the pistols and the clash were formed. The first LP took 8 days to record and finish and press up to a record all very fast and was like a real time diary of the group. It had a lot more quality then the pistols music and was something completly new sounding.
It was all very exciting at the start and when they played their first ngigs before recording the first LP playing with the pistols, the Buzzcocks and other early punk groups. really that phase of punk only lasted for 2 years until the bickkering and the money got involved and then the whole feel of punk had been lost.
1976-1978 was the golden years of punk with more than 20 bands getting the point of it. Then the bandwagon started and bands and people were trying to cash in on it, with a lot more watered down stuff.
The good thing about the clash is they kept to what they were about until bernie came back in 1982 with all that combat rock and turning them into Americans for the American market place.They had being doing very well without bernie for 4 years and then they let him back in. So bernie had his chance to cash in and distory the band just like malcom did with the sex pistols.
The clash and reggae music was a big part of it, with roots reggae playing at the gigs warming up the crowd before they went on stage and introduced a lot of white people to reggae.Mikey Dread R.I.P. worked with the clash and joe did covers of some reggae tunes and invented punk rock dub.

There is almost certainly a good book to be had on the subject of Malcolm McLaren, Bernie Rhodes and Vivienne Westwood - Punk's own Haberdashers. But why not give it its full worth rather than have it peeking out through yet another Clash biog?

Its all very interesting stuff Ghost town, but to slag off people for, as you put it, wearing Burton Suits and working in the Tax office is a bit extreme. Most of the people you are addressing are either pushing 50 or past 50. What would you have them do, still wear black drainpipe jeans, baseball boots and a leather bikers jacket?
The reality is that we are thirty years past the "golden" age of Punk, people grew old, people die, enjoy it for what it was, be thankful that you were a part of it, keep playing the records, but dont keep beating yourself up over it.

Nobody will approach you via an internet Forum.

Write a brief synopsis and a sample chapter - ideally Chapter One - and submit to either a literary agent or a Publisher who appears to work in the approximate area which is of interest to you. Apart from your Synopsis, never send any substantial writing unsolicited in the first instance - write and ask the publisher/agent to invite you to submit your sample chapter.

Your writing is a bit rough and ready, not a bad thing in itself, but have a moderately literate friend cast an eye over your work before you submit it, just to isolate any real howlers that may have crept in.

I have moved on from punk rock but i know bernie has not cailming it was him who killed joe strummer, you think cos their in their 60`s their to be treated like kid gloves and brittle bones. lieable to liable lawyer action, face it nowadays everything has to be passed through a legal team its better to be sued than sue people, coz im on legal aid no win no claim. As i say i have the clash dub plates on acetate how much would they sell for on ebay?

It was so funny when joe went missing for a publicity stunt that backfired, bernie told joe to disappear and the newspapers where going "where has joe gone hes got a gig tonught!" joe then took a train and went busking but nowone told him when to come back.Bernie was pulling his hair out cussing joe and there was a joe man hunt to find joe.
I think the publihers will be queing up to publish the book knowing im from the inner cirle of the cl;ash office and having to deal with the music press nme,melody maker, the sun and the daily mirror where has joe gone well he aint here and the phone being tapped.
I read all the clash books and the best one was Jiohnny Green`s one the rest of them were outsides looking in on the zoo.
What do they know just what they`ve been told by wannaies.
Bernie has quoted he was born in Russia which is a lie as well, maybe im bernies long lost brother who he has tried to kill off the scence.
The publishers come running to me, i dont go running to publishers, like a begger.
I am waiting for bernie to come out with something on the market place to put it all in action (its gonna be a long wait knowing bernies so lazy in doing anything to do with work) so bernies not making money just spending it, oh dear its running out hes gonna have to do some work and get on the market place.

I have a terrible track record in deducing meaning from these things, but here goes:

You advised that a more literate friend have a once-over on Ghost Town's writing before it gets submitted. Presumably a style review and polishing. Our friend Ghost Town took this to mean having a lawyer go over the manuscript and remove any slanderous material.

Point out what is slander and what is gossip, it is neither.what dont you understand the history of the clash that has not been taken from other clash books.

While getting a legal review of any tell-all book is not a bad idea, that's not what anyone here suggested.

It was observed that your writing style is very raw, and that before submitting a portion of it to a publisher for consideration you should have a friend help smooth out the writing. If a publisher then finds themselves interested in the book I guarantee that part of the publishing process will involve a legal review.

Always sad to see Cain and Abel at loggerheads again but really, the only hope Bernie Rhodes has of being "in the public eye as a well known famous person" for even the briefest of moments is if he accepts a gig on I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.
