' was listening to Robert Elms show on BBC London on Friday and there was a special focus on the music from New Orleans. One of the tracks came on and a very familiar accordion riff belted out of the car stereo, after about 30 seconds i realised where i'd heard it before - 'Paddy Rolling Stone' from Shane & Popes 'Crock of gold' album. It's loosely the same arrangement but the accordion is almost identical . For those who want to check it out it's called 'Promised land' and it's by Johnnie Allan.
For the next couple of days (until it changes)you can hear the track on Robert Elms archive here (bottom right of page under 'Listen again'):
Go to 'Fri' (friday) show & when you get to the player forward 35 mins and after approx 37 mins the track is played.
I've checked the booklet of 'Crock of gold' and there are various credits but this ain't one of them. Anyone else heard this track or know of it just to confirm that i'm not going bonkers? In the meantime i'm gonna order a copy from his 'Best of...' on Amazon as it sounds like shit-kicking cajun music of the highest order.....
