Fanclub Gig?

Post Sat May 10, 2008 10:56 am

Now I am more than happy with the amount of gigs the Pogues do in the UK and have been lucky enough to see them live on many occasions so this isnt a message saying 'oi! why dont u do more gigs/play in this country etc etc'

but i was just wondering...

do you think the band ever would ever consider doing (or perhaps have actually done in the past?) a sort of 'fanclub' style gig for, say, forum users only in a small venue in which they play their lesser known songs which do not usually feature on tour setlists? i know blur, madness, suede have been known to play such small 'fanclub' gigs, sometimes as warmups for their full scale tours. of course the band do each year make an effort to throw in lesser played songs to many a fans delight and this is fantastic, but i was wondering would they ever consider playing a gig of purely lesser known songs?

so what does everyone think? would this idea be a glorious delight for fans? or a disastrous nightmare of an experience for all involved?

cheers!

Spear Of Destiny do a fan weekend called Westworld, so I'm lead to believe from a couple of SOD mates, never been tempted though.

As an aside, probably one of the worst gigs I've ever been to (partly due to a drinking curfew) was TMTCH supporting themselves in a small club in Bristol, they did a load of the lesser known songs and covers but blew up before their main set.

Well, I would. Can't speak for the others though. Again, like the Jay-Z thing, it's never going to happen...unless an eccentric billionaire with a penchant for this kind of thing comes calling. Or a Russian oligarch, hmm it's sounding more likely now, I'm started to get excited. Unfortunately none of you will be able to come as the crowd will be made up of hitmen, prostitutes and footballers only. Oh, and we will play the usual set, so you won't miss much.

Did I mention the Pogues have a myspace page where you can listen to tracks off the box set? http://www.myspace.com/thepoguesofficial & I put a new old song on mine at http://www.myspace.com/spiderstacythepogues We also have a link to this website, but no reciprocal arrangement has been made here, I've noticed.

See the thing is, I think, that no one goes to the front page. Well actually we do now about once a week to hear the new song that’s being streamed. Good stuff on the Spider page to bad it seems to be such a side project.

I'm sorry! Is there an "official" fan club???? I thought we were a bunch of crazy fucks hanging onto a raft. Silly me. Uh, where do I get the card for my wallet and the lapel pin?

I've just noticed this.

The links we have here aren't actually maintained by us. We automatically snarf them from the DMoz.org Pogues directory. We started doing this years ago. Unfortunately the "editor" of that category has gone missing, so it seems as though your MySpage page hasn't made it there.

You should get the page submitted into the DMoz category. The sooner it gets in there and is made "public" the sooner it will end up in the many, many web sites that automatically pull the links from there, and will start driving traffic to you. In the meanwhile I'll find some way to manually add the site to the links we have here.

In the future you'll reach me much faster at dzm@dzm.com, or all the Janitors at photos@pogues.com.
I'm going for a walk in the sun.

A damn fine idea. See you there.
