I'm hoping Hoggy takes a hatful of wickets and plays his way back into the England XI.

OK so Glamorgan lost to Worcs yesterday, but let me say that despite that it does seem to be "so far so good" mid table mediocracy is emminantly achievable. A good win at Gloc and Somerset.

To some extent yes i have! I love sumer cricket a one day Sunday match with a cold beer sheer bliss...there is far less rugby around for the next few weeks, with some summer games. I also don't play rugby at this time of year, thankfully amateur players still get a close season!. Have a look on the rugby thread for a further Aled announcement!

Watched an excellent spell of bowling from the long-lost Simon Jones yesterday evening for Worcs against Hampshire. Ok, it was only in a 50-over match, but it was good to see him hitting speeds of 90mph without any parts of his anatomy falling off.

Aled, do you know the story behind him moving counties? Was it his decision, or did Glam encourage him to move on?

Simon wanted to go, and i dont think Glamorgan were prepared to up the money. However of one thing i'm sure we will see him back at Glamorgan before the end of his career. It was a bit disappointing, i'll never forget shouting "thats one for Glamorgan" after a cracking Jones wicket for CBE&W at Lords vs the West Indies in 2004.

I'm sure Simon will never forget where he comes from, Aled.

He's currently helping to roll over the Essex batting order for Worcs. Actually it's not that hard to do that, as they are quite capable of rolling over all on their own.

Your right firehazard, he wont, to be honest he may well of needed a change of scene for a while, it can do players a world of good. Its why Dwayne Peel is off to Saracens. Good luck to him, i hope to see him in the CBE&W team again, however i do doubt it (but i hope i'm wrong...). He had a good game last week.

He's just got four wickets in each innings against Essex (though admittedly the current Essex batting line-up is weak to say the least), and apparently he bowled very well. Yeah, I'd like to see Simon back on the international scene too. If he can only stay free of injury for a few months, maybe he'll get the chance. In time for the Ashes next year, a return to the Test scene for the first Test at Cardiff would be sort of fitting, eh?

It would be geat to see Simon back at Cardiff playing for CBE&W, definately. Maybe the move to Worcs was the change needed. Glamorgan struggling at the moment, not quite enough bit from the batting. Still a long way to go. I play a bit of social cricket, and scored 12 runs in a 25 over match on Sunday, not a big score but when you realise we were all out for 67 its not bad!

Yeah, he seems to be taking wickets for fun for Worcs at the moment. I've only seen him bowling briefly on Sky in a one-day match, but he looked good. If only he can avoid getting injured again... I think England could do with him in the attack. The last Test win against NZ was on a pitch that flattered the bowlers, but I reckon on a flatter/faster wicket they need a bit more pace.

It's looking like a long season ahead for poor old Essex. The batting, apart from Ravi, is a complete shambles, and the last match against Middx was an embarrassment. At least we have a semi-final to look forward to. Which reminds me, I must get tickets.

And I love a bit of social cricket. 12 out of 67 ain't bad!

England one-day captain Paul Collingwood has been banned for four matches because of repeated offending over the team's slow over rate: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket ... 474707.stm

Not necessarily a bad thing for the team, as Collingwood hasn't been worth his place as a batsman or a bowler for a while now. And his captaincy isn't that hot either. Ok, they'll miss his fielding...

And actually I reckon Collingwood should have been sacked as captain, or at the very least severely reprimanded by the E(&W)CB for his conduct yesterday over the run-out of NZ's Elliott: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket ... 474301.stm
Ok, he apologised and said it was a split-second decision, but he had plenty of time to change his mind while the guy was lying injured on the pitch. Not in the spirit an' all that. Shocking stuff.

This is a strange law, why does the Captain get banned? why dont the whole team suffer? Surely it would be easy for the Umpires to punish the team as and when it happens. For example, slow bowling, the umpires issue a warning, continue to bowl slowly the umpire deducts 10 runs and so on.
As you rightly say FH, Collingwood has been out of sorts so it is no big issue for the team for him to miss 4 games.
