Re: The Acceptable Conversation Topic Thread

Post Tue Apr 29, 2008 6:02 pm

All - Let's just let this one lie, shall we? Gurrier has more than once made his points about what hypocrites and jerks we Janitors are, and I have more than once tried to lay out our position. We're not convincing each other, and nothing is served by further balkanization of everyone else.

As IrishRover (sort of) said - can't we all just make an effort to get along?

If a particular user is too aggravating to read, make use of the "Foe" feature (click on their name on any of their posts, and in the profile page that opens click the "Add Foe" link). If there are posts that you think the Janitors should be dealing with and aren't, make use of the of "Report post" feature (the little exclamation-point icon on the upper-right of each post).

Let those that want to see snarky trolling see it, and lets the rest of us get on with enjoying what brought us together.

I'd also add a large Thank You to everyone that has spoken up for us. I genuinely appreciate all of your support. Thank you.

DzM: But it should be set, which rules violations are we supposed to report.

I had a feeling, that one certain person posts almost exclusively in Speakers corner, I checked its posts, and my feeling, that the person writes mostly shite, got confirmed. This person confuses Bulletin board and chatroom. Are we supposed to report such posts too?

You know, Legolas, the Soviets had a WONDERFUL little system of reporting your fellow man. Maybe you and DzM could learn some stuff from them.

POLICE STATE!!!

Gee, you don't pick up on subtleties very well, do you?

Not really. Soviets did this operation, you know? Lobotomy it´s called. That´s why I don´t get what other people say, sadly. But we people here got more obedient.

Pyro: It's a mechanism to make it easier for the community of users to let the Janitors know when a post has gone too far. As I've said earlier, the Janitors use our best judgment when deciding whether to do something about (or with) a post; this gives you the ability to help inform our judgment with yours. It's an infrequently used feature of the software, so I have no idea how it'll work out in practice.

TheIrishRover: Yeah, I can see how you'd say it's POLICE STATE! I disagree though. This is not the Stasi or the MGB/KGB. This is no different than the signs beside the highway that say "Report drunk drivers; Call 911". This is trying to give you (all of you) more voice in how moderation is done.

I don't think I'll bother trying to engage with your or Gurrier about this any more though. You don't think there should be any moderation, I do. As long as there IS moderation, you think the moderators/Janitors are despots and fascists. There's nothing I can say that will change your mind, and there's nothing either of you have said that has convinced me there isn't a need for moderation.

So here we are - POLICE STATE! Same POLICE STATE! as it's been for the last four years. ZOMG!!!1! I'm stealing your freedom and encouraging other people here to rat on you!!1!1! ZOMG!1

So you do not have any problems, the place is friendly, sound is superb, strings pulling guys are great. All you do here is trying to shake the venue up a bit, eh?
That's why there is a security usually, to help such little helpers.

Glad you admit it, that makes you less of a hypocrite than before.

We covered that earlier:
DzM wrote:Yeah yeah. I'm a great big giant fucking hypocrite. You found me out. You're so brave and clever.

Yet here you are. Same question to you as was put to Gurrier - If you hate it here so much, why not go somewhere else? Perhaps you and Gurrier can make the most-bestest-awesomest forum ever. Please, put Medusa out of business.

Another question? Why don´t you help them by banning them?

These two guys brought trouble, and bring trouble. And I dare to say, they will bring trouble. Are they very helpful to the community? Doubtfully. Yet they poison the air - and obviously, they´re not going to leave (because if there was this chance, they´d done so earlier).

Banning is not killing people, just kicking out fools...
