Shane on Lewis Black's "The Root of All Evil"

Post Sat Apr 05, 2008 3:20 am

Don't know if anybody's been watching Lewis Black's show "The Root of All Evil" (Black is a "commentator" on John Stewarts The Daily SHow), but during last week's episode (Episode 3: Beer vs. Pot) Shane was brought up as one of the reasons booze is the root of all evil. He (forget his name, the "prosecutor" arguing that beer is evil) pretty much just held up a photo of his face and identified who he was, and felt that made the closing argument.

Pretty good show, the arguments so far:

1. Catholic Church vs. Oprah
First aired: 3/12/2008
Greg Giraldo and Paul F. Tompkins argue the case of "Catholic Church vs. Oprah."

2. Donald Trump vs. Viagra
First aired: 3/19/2008
Lewis Black hears the case of "Donald Trump vs. Viagra" from advocates Greg Giraldo and Andy Kindler.

3. Beer vs. Weed
First aired: 3/26/2008
Paul F. Tompkins and Andrew Daly argue on which is the bigger vice: Beer or Weed?

4. YouTube vs. Porn
First aired: 4/2/2008
Greg Giraldo and Patton Oswalt plead the pros and cons of Pornography and YouTube as the ultimate vice.

I shall forgive your calling Jon "John," this time. 8)

Now as for Lewis Black, it was another case of showing a bad picture when there are plenty that are a lot more flattering. And I like him enough but he's really not the one to be making disparaging remarks about someone's looks. No matter how he thinks they got that way.

Hah! But for the record, it was one of Paul F. Tompkins or Andrew Daly, the "lawyers", who made the comparrison, not Black.

And my apologies to Mr. Stewart for not using the Jew-y spelling of "Jon".

Yes but it's Black's show and I'm pretty sure he writes it; with others, yes, but most likely any joke on the show is one that he's approved even when he doesn't write it himself.

While this segment was funny, I'm not a big fan of Lewis Black, to me he comes across as a second-rate Denis Leary. I mean I'm all for political satire when it is done right (Dennis Miller and Bill Maher start taking notes,) but when you come across as preachy, in my opinion your no better than all the other idiot celebrities who think just because they are famous they know everything about politics. (My humble opinion, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!)

I actually like his political rambling, esp. as opposed to the likes of Denis Leary, who just is incomprehensible (ie: ideological) in his logistical processes. Totally weak, dude (i liked him back before he tried to be political, he was a better libertarian than he is a conservative).

What i really LIKE about Black, though, is how he peppers his self-riotousness with total self-effacement. I find that quite charming in a ranter, and pretty necessary in a comedian.
