Ultimate Pogues live CD?

Post Sat Mar 29, 2008 4:18 pm

With all of the live shows the Pogues have played, there are tons of boots available around, which allows you to listen to the way the band has changed over the years. Luckily, you also get to hear some of the best, most transcendent recordings of favorite songs. So here's the question: if you had to make an "Ultimate Pogues Live CD", which tracks from which shows would you include on it? A "best of" for the live shows, if you will.

Transmetropolitan
Sally MacLennane

I'm rather fond of the live in Japan, 1988 bootleg, even thought The Body of an American and Japan are omitted, and Thousands Are Sailing and USA appear at the end of the CD.

1. The Battle March Medley
2. The Broad Majestic Shannon
3. Streams of Whiskey
4. If I Should Fall From Grace With God
5. Lullaby of London
6. Boat Train
7. Metropolis
8. A Rainy Night In Soho
9. Johnny Come Lately
10. Bottle of Smoke
11. Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
12. Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six
13. Turkish Song of the Damned
14. Fiesta
15. Sally MacLennane
16. The Sickbed of Cuchulainn
17. Dirty Old Town
18. Honky Tonk Women
19. The Irish Rover
20. Thousands Are Sailing
21. USA

I only own one bootleg, and it is believed to be the first American concert recorded, Boston 1986.
Besides the regular favorites,

as the intro- A Pistol for Paddy Garcia
I'm a Man You Don't Meet Everyday (Cait vocals, with great backup vocals from Shane)
London Girl
Billy's Bones
The Parting Glass ("extended version nice instrumental riffing at the end")

plus some of the crowd noise, my two favorites-
one guy continually calling for "The Men Behind the Wire"
and the other guy calling for "The Wild Rover", eventually one of the Pogues (Jem, Phillip? )replying "Well, this one is called Wildcats (of Kilkenny) actually"
Mike from Boston
Red Shirt

It has been played on a couple of shows in 1986. But if I remember correctly the sound of these shows is poor.

London Girl is on both the New England shows from '86, being Boston and Providence.

The Boston boot from "the Spit" is decent enough sound - - I'd add a few numbers from that show to the ongoing [i]Ultimate Live[i] disc, in addition to some stuff from the great sounding show they did in Orange, France in '86 that recently surfaced...
