But I can almost guarantee that they are played within the context of the Pogues. It's like another band playing "I Fought The Law"... They're probably more likely to be playing it like the Clash than Bobby Fuller.

Just listened to the new FM album, got to say im dissapointed. Im a massive FM fan and I've seen them on every UK tour they've done but the new ablum just seems lacking, maybe i need to listen to it more

Why am I not surprised, their last two albums (Drunken Lullabies and Within A Mile Home) were very disappointing, one pensive song after another.

Float sucks. I can't find any song that moves me, that I really like. Apart from "Us of lesser gods", maybe

In addition to "us of lesser gods", I also like "Float" & "Requium for a dying song." Although I already knew those from the Complete Control Sessions EP.

I wouldn't say that the album sucks, but it's not what I'd call a great album. There are maybe 5 songs that I really like, and that's it. I really like From the Back of a Broken Dream for instance, and Between a Man and a Woman is not bad. Other than that, Requiem for a Dying Song, You Won't Make a Fool Out of Me and Us of Lesser Gods are good songs. Other than that, the songs are really subpar. The recipe is growing old, they should try to change it a bit.

Me, I love the new album. I'd put it in second next to Drunken Lullabies. My only complaint is that it is too short.

Although I am a little pissed that they keep skipping San Francisco on their tours, when they used to come here all the time.

Well,I finally had time to put it on,so I did back to back...not as bad as most are saying,but it's definitely not close to the earlier works.I def don't agree that it's much of the same,I think this sounds a bit different than anything else..alot more folky,much less piss & vinegar...maybe that's why yiz all pissing on it.The song writing quality is a notch below before,there I agree.But there are listenable songs in there,if most of the anti-FM people stop thinking that they're ripping off the Pogues,maybe the reviews wouldn't be so harsh....on that note,no FM album has ever sounded LESS like the Pogues...maybe that's what you guys don't like about it after all!!You hated them when they sounded like the Pogues now you hate them more that they don't!!

Now I'm on to the Tossers Live On St Patricks Day dvd style...haven't heard any of it yet so I may as well watch it at the same time for 1st listen...review to follow on the Tossers thread....

Just heard the new album, and I have to say two thumbs way down!!!! The only song I found rather enjoyable was Requiem for a Dying Song, again as with all the other FM (exception being Swagger,) another pensive song after the other. I agree Sober, they really need to change it up a bit, the novelty has already ran thin. (which may explain why I find Peace and Love and Hell's Ditch very good albums. They proved The Pogues could explore other types of music, without abandoning their defining Irish sound in the process.)

I've been playing 'Float' back to back since it dropped through my letterbox on Wednesday ($9.00 inc p&p from the USA - UK in about 5 days - why are people deserting high street 'retailers' I wonder?) and I must say I fuckin' love it. It's been too long a wait for fresh Molly material and this is exactly what it should be - fresh! 'You Won't Make A Fool Out Of Me' is the obvious 'pop hit' but, with one or two exceptions, I don't think there is a bad tune on here. The production is nice and clean without being squeaky - but you can tell this is not the work of Albini or Hutt - kind of what I think Lillywhite would make them sound like I reckon - polished, but 'real' at the same time (does it remind anyone of 'Peace and Love'?). I love the sleeve and artwork as well (which you downloaders may not have seen) and did anyone notice that Matt Hensley does the right thing and thanks The Pogues in his list the back? Is this a first for the Molly? So it's a thumbs up from me for 'Float'.

Hope you all had a jolly Easter - time for some more chocolate me thinks.

If FM really loved their fans they would play across the country and not make us tavel to pissing London. And don't get me started on booking and transaction fees.

They are playing in Glasgow and Manchester too - where do you want them to play your local pub?

I totally agree. I don't want to agree but what can you do. I'm still trying hard to like the album but it just hasn't happened yet.
