If you go to youtube and listen to Shane singing Nick Cave's Lucy on jool's you'll see that it's the exact tune to christmas lullaby on the popes "best of" album.

Not the first tune Shane borrowed. ;) Or maybe he and Nick Cave just caught the same tune at the same time...
As a journo observed: Curiously, he [Shane] believes his songs are not really his, they are mystic elements which float around. Anyone can do it. "Christy Moore summed it up beautifully. He said there are all these songs floating around the air and if you don't reach out and catch one then someone else, I dunno, Paul Simon or someone, will grab it instead.'' (from this article)

Christmas Lullaby also borrows a bit from the Irish Lullaby

Yes, Irish Lullaby was what my Grandmother sang to me and what I sang to my son. I love Shane's take on it. I would have sung Shane's version to my son had I known it way back then.

Or Sit Down By the Fire! That's a great lullaby. ;)
