To those of you who are awaiting for the next Pogues tour my advice is : book in advance …and expect to see a great show!! .

I am sure they will put some fantastic concerts, they all are in form, Shane in very good form and spirits all the time, they showed it last night in front of a crowd of about 5 thousand people at the Azkena Rock Festival.

They got on stage in time, it was scheduled for 10:50 and it went on until 11:15.
Shane looked great, his hair arranged and shaved, quite clean look and has lost some weight too!. He managed to stand up and sing for almost all the time, with the exception of some breaks when Spider, Terry and Phil sang their songs, just then he went off the stage. No long breaks though, it was all quite organised.
Shane made people go mad from the start, captivated everyone even though there were no many genuine fans (think they should come back to the Basque Country more regularly …last time it was in Bilbao 18 years ago!!).
He was obviouly enjoying it and played with the mic all the time, thowing the cable round the mic foot and making it fall, at the time that this made the table behind him and his drink fall as well. He also wet his fingers on a drink, crossed himself and blessed us all. I am blessed by the big man …what else could I ask?! :-)

No new songs last night, I made a list though:

I will try and find out if there is any video of the festival, one that will be worth having that’s for sure.

A good gig by the pogues that of sept 3rd. It was broadcasted entirely by Radio Nacional de España, (Radio 3), if you´re interested on it.

It was the best day in my life... The Pogues worked very hard in that concert, GREAT! IT WAS MARVELLOUS! THANKS POGUES and THANKS SHANE for that lovely night!

I will not forget that night the rest of my life!

you can put as much spin on it as you like but i still think it a bit crass to dedicate a song with the title thousands are sailing to the victims of a catastrophe in which thousands have drowned. i saw jesse jackson the tv the other night and he was emphatic that these poor people should not be called refugees.

I am not prepared to enter into a debate on the subject with either the anonymous correspondent or the Rev. Jackson. I would merely point out that a song is not its title and that, in fact, the poor bastard in the first verse of my song doesn't make it either!!!

Christ! For 18 years I've been singing 'famished *land*'!!

Chevron is right. It's the spirit of the song that's important, not pedantic word picking.

Amen to that. I thought it was a lovely statement, carrying both anguish for the tragedy that's happened, and hope for the recovery/renewal to come.
