If one did not see the Pogues live, one really which missed. My first concert which I visited was a Pogues Konzert.Die tendency among the spectators gives it with no other Konzert.Man enjoys the music, treinkt a few beers and dances naturally to the geilen Musik.Ich wished such evenings would never pass! :D

Well, our first experience of the Pogues was at the Nokia in Times Square. We tried to position ourselves in front of where we figured Shane would be. We were about 10 feet back from the rail. When the lights went down and "Straight To Hell" played, it felt like electricity was coursing across the floor and through us. And then they launched into "Streams of Whiskey" and it was very literally like trying to swim in a typhoon! The mosh pit had instantly formed around us, and was RAGING. Neither my sweetheart or I are particularly tall so we would just catch glimpses of Shane through a sea of fists and elbows. By the time "If I Should Fall From Grace" started, my Sweetie turned around and said: "there are 3 or 4 sets of hands groping me and I don't think any of them are yours."

So we went back toward the back of the floor. My Sweetie kept apologizing but I couldn't have stayed up there for long either. It's the realm of younger, stronger, taller Pogues fans. And a Pogues show is sublime from ANY vantage point.

The second time we saw them, in Philly, we got there early and grabbed a handhold on the rail in front of where we knew Philip would be, and never let go. If you can grab the rail you're home free. (The mosh pit is generally immediately behind the front row.) And there is NO better place in the whole world to be during the two hours the Pogues are on stage.

Wow - thinking about this stuff is really making me wish it was March! See you in Baltimore, and at Roseland! WHOOOOO!
Disclaimer: These are my opinions and not fact as realised in these here United States, lest I give my friends the idea that everyone thinks like me.

I am, once again, confused about how this helps answer the question posed. To paraphrase:

"Hey everyone, I'm going to be having peppermint ice-cream and want to know what I can expect. What's it like?"
"I WISH I could taste peppermint ice-cream too, but it wouldn't be very good unless I could have peppermint ice-cream at a Cold Stone Creamery! That would be awesome!"

I mean, OK. It's kinda related to the question. Kinda. But it doesn't actually answer the question.

"Hey everyone, I'm going to buy some sunglasses. Are polarized ones better?"
"I WISH I could get some sunglasses!"

I saw frequently on concerts of the Pogues that fans created it again and again on the stage to come. Which really surprises me, the Shane that is not really interested!

I'm not entirely positive, but I think it boils down to concert video showing fans trying to get on stage and failing, and that Woody is surprised that Shane seems not to notice or encourage it.

I'm likely wrong though. I usually am when trying to parse this kind of thing.

We don't encourage audience participation. We have a long history of abandoned performances, damaged 16th century instruments and stolen hats. You stay on your side of the barrier and we promise to stay on our side. Our security people are authorised to enforce this policy in the strongest possible terms.

wouldn't know really,
standing up front and not looking back too much (-:

happy crowd, I'd say,
not as rough as for instance with Flogging Molly gigs
In heaven I met my Maker, I told Him a few jokes
we also sang some songs, He even liked The Pogues

Crowd at a Pogues Show

Post Thu Dec 16, 2010 3:06 pm

Wife and I are going to one of the NYC shows in March. Never been to a Pogues show before so i'm curious what the crowd is like and what we can expect. Besides a Pogues fan i'm also a metal head so I've been to some crazy shows. Just want to know what to expect.
