Couldn't help it: I miss Shane's music too much

Hi,

Yesterday, I ordered from Amazon.com the albums Across the Broad Atlantic and The Snake from Shane MacGowan. I own already all the Pogues albums, including the Ultimate Collection, and I needed more music from this man! I am a fan of his music since only a year or so, so I didn't own his solo albums.

Can't wait to have them!

Is the live record a good one?

I really hope he will put out another record some day, but it is most unlikely.

In other words, Shane at his drunken best. It has a great atmosphere and I DO like it - surely not a CD that would lie idly on my shelf.

Yup very nice one and for your watching pleasure I'd recommend the Montreux DVD. Shane makes a couple of politically incorrect remarks there but it is a good DVD (especially Shane breakdancing)

I already own that DVD. I like it, but I must say that I don't understand most of what Shane says. English is my second language, so Shane's mumbling is quite difficult to understand for me.

Yes, the live CD is a wonderful thing, one I go back to quite often. Some great between-song comments, and fairly strong performances.

As for the DVD, and Shane's breakdancing?

I watched the DVD again tonight. It was great. Afterward, I played the Live at the Brixton Academy CD. Shane sounds way better on the CD. On the DVD, he does not only mumble the words, he doesn't sing most of them. He only follows the melodies with the sound of his voice. On the CD, at least, you see that he actually says all the wordsl, and you can even understand what he's singing.

And Gentleman Soldier is not really great on the DVD either.

But again, I know that this gig was in 1995 and that Shane has recovered a lot since then.

Talking of the DVD - I thought it was great and Shane break dancing was a highlight.

I can't seem to bring myself to watch the DVD as Danny Heatly (aka pope) Is such a twatt in it! He really drives me nuts - his stupid grins. Ok perhaps I'm being silly.

Live in Brixton Academy is class - you are correct.

I have to say you are being silly, Walshy - far too many lovely Shane moments in that DVD for you to deny yourself the pleasure. Danny only gets a few minutes' screen time, easily ignored. Go on, then - watch and enjoy!

I'd pick live at Brixton over Across the board atlantic just because the pogues are much better musicans than the popes but still an excellent CD.

I received my package at the beginning of the week. In the Live CD box, there is a paper saying:

"Look for Shane MacGowan album with all brand new material coming your way from Eagle Records, Summer 2002!!!"

What's up with that?

And btw, I think the Snake has many great songs, even though some are just bad (I'll be your handbag).

But I really like Nancy Whiskey, Aisling, The Song With No Name, You're the one, Rising of the Moon, The Snake with the eye of garnet, Her Father didn't like me Anyway, Bring Down the Lamp and Donegal Express.

More good songs than bad ones!
