Yep - not sure if you were friendly with any of the staff, etc, but the owners of Scruffy's have already opened a new place in the neighborhood - Lansdowne Road, on 10th Ave between 43rd and 44th, and a few of the staff have moved over there, I think. Nice place, but a bit too slick for my liking - there is an "ice rail" running the length of the bar.

Yikes!!

Well, now that pubs, the world over, are no longer the hubs of sociability, affability and tolerance of bad habits for which we once cherished them, they have to do something to keep us interested in frequenting their premises.

For me, an ice rail the length of the bar does it every time. I can hardly wait. See you there.

At the risk of sounding like one that doesn't get out much, what is this "ice rail" of which you speak?

I got tickets for one of the New York shows as a Christmas gift.

What I'm not keen on is the fact they are general admission floor seats. I'm too old for that. If anyone has GA mezzanine seats that they'd care to swap, let me know.

It is actually a narrow sheet of ice, somehow kept frozen by an elaborate refrigeration system underneath the bar, running the length of the bar. Keeps your beer nice and cold, if you choose to set it on the ice rail. Or so I gather. It also lights up into lots of pretty colors. Like Scruffy's, this place is a sports bar, so it does look a little odd - seems more appropriate in the W hotel.

Funny thing is, Scruffy's gets forced out by condos, so they respond with this. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, I guess.

It's a confusing time here in Hell's Kitchen, folks. We also just got our 1st miniature designer puppy store on 9th Avenue as well.

Well, at least some replacement for the ashtrays! I would kinda miss them otherwise as I find ashtrays extremely handy as a storage place for ice cubes from my drinks. (Especially when "kind" waiters treat me to a glass full of gleaming cubes in the middle of winter when I’m frozen myself, even without the help of ice.) Not that my companions-smokers would always appreciate having to tap off the ash into a pool of water then...

first pogues concert!

Post Sun Dec 30, 2007 5:18 pm

Well fist my apologies for interrupting, but this will be my first time to see The Pogues and I am unbelievably excited I can't believe it's real. I got two tickets to the Baltimore show but so far no one to go with me (I can't believe that either). Any way being a first timer (to see the Pogues and to the thread) any advice?

Thanks!!!!
