I think I enjoyed the shows last year more, for three reasons:DzM wrote:DJHombre wrote:I need to point out that this past Tuesdays show at the Fillmore was probably one of the best shows I've ever been to.
Duly noted.
I, too, feel compelled to point out that each time I see The Pogues I am convinced that that show was, in fact, the finest show I have ever been to.
Well ... Except ... I think my most vivid memory of any Pogues show (or any show for that matter) was the first time I saw the Pogues. October of 1991. The Warfield. Shane was just gone, and Joe Strummer was filling in. The band was fantastic, I was twenty, I was there with my bested friend (later to become The Lovely Mrs. DzM), many Clash favorites were performed (including Straight to Hell), etc. It was like getting two dream shows magically mushed into one fantastic show - The Clash + The Pogues. "You got your awesome into our awesome!" "You got YOUR awesome into my awesome!" So ... hmm ... Yeah, it would have been fantastic if the whole band were present, but I'll always smile when I remember that show.
I guess they're ALL the best show I've ever been too. Every one beautiful and unique, a snowflake to be treasured.

I hadn't seen the Pogues live since Berkeley in '89, with no Shane. The gear was all held up in customs, so they played on rented gear. The accordian showed up during the second or third song, and they had the wrong strap, so a roadie had to attach it with gaffer's tape...and they blew the house down!
i have a recording of that show! you're right, it's pretty damn good stuff. and your description rings a bell, from the comments section of the tracker where i got it, so i suspect you have it too.
The look on Bob Dylan's face was priceless. Not only have these guys left their lead singer behind, now they don't even have any instruments to play! I suppose we were fortunate to be playing to a Dylan-friendly crowd, long since accustomed to expecting the unexpected.
It was about 9:30 PM when they played the Fillmore.Dread wrote:Can anyone tell me what time The Pogues generally take to the stage? Thanks!

DzM wrote:William Elliott Whitmore is one of the openers (probably first). You should be there to see him. He's fantastic. You won't regret it.

DzM, many thanks for your efforts on Will's behalf!
