No way, in last years comp we got Barca and then Chelsea  You call that lucky?

The fact that you beat them pretty much proves my point!

Beating Barca 2-1 in the Nou Camp was not luck. Beating Chelsea for the 3rd year running in a major semi final (twice in the champions league and once in the fa cup) is not luck, but then again, that is just my opinion.

The game in England sold its soul years ago, sadly.

Congrats on reaching 1000, Mark. 8)

I believe the date of said soul selling was the formation of the Premier League.

However there is plenty of soul to be found in the lower leagues. You often hear pundits blathering on about how the 'EPL' is the most exciting league in the world. But how can it be?

What is exciting? Is it being on the edge of your seat, hoping against all odds that your team might scramble a late goal for a hard won point? Well, all teams in all leagues experience that. Is it the excitement over wondering which one of the many participating teams will win their respective leagues? Well, there's no need to comment on that, is there?

So nobody can say the Premiership is any more exciting for the fans of the teams in it, than the Championship or League 1 or Ryman's Premier League. Or even the League of Wales.

So is it more entertaining. Well it does have a handful of teams (Man U and Arse mainly) that play a type of football that neutral fans can sit down and enjoy in their living rooms. Apart from that it is only really entertaining for the fans of the teams involved. Pretty much like any other league really.

In fact, being a fan of any team in the EPL that isn't one of the big four, must be quite depressing really. All you have to look forward to is the odd cup run, the odd victory over one of the big four, and maybe the odd season when you get in the UEFA Cup. Apart from the UEFA cup, the rest applies to teams in any other league.

So all in al the EPL is not the product it tries to be marketed as. Let 'em keep it. I'm happy in League 1 and watching the Aussie Rules on Setanta on Weekend mornings.

BTW - If you really want to watch some over-hyped dross being played by over-payed and under-skilled players, England are playing Saturday.

Well said, Beisty. My first footballing love was down in the strangely named "non-league" leagues. And to be honest I've always preferred it there.

Ten years ago today we, Wigan, beat Wrexham 3-2 in a 3rd Division game at Springfield Park in front of 3872 fans, 19 year old Roy Carroll played in goal for us that day.

Ten years on and we sit 7th in the Premiership and England's Number 9 is a Wigan Athletic Player 8)

The moral of the story is - never give up hope!

Best of luck to big Emile Heskey if he plays tonight; i do not give much of a toss if England win or not but i'd like to see him play well again to shut the so called experts up.
