I read an interesting article about Mr. Rubin in the NY Times Magazine which is what got me thinking (again) about him collaborating with the Pogues. I don't know Shane but from what I have heard about the 2 of them it seems they would get along well. Rubin is co president of Columbia records now but still produces non-Columbia artists.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/02/magaz ... ref=slogin

"I don't want to make a decision for the wrong reason," Rubin continues. "The most important thing we have to do now is get the art right. So many of the decisions at these companies have not been about the music. They sign artists for the wrong reasons — because they think somebody else wants them or if they need to have a record out by a certain date. That old way of doing things is obsolete, but luckily, fear is making the record companies less arrogant. They're more open to ideas. So, what's important now is to find music that's timeless. I still believe that if an artist gains the belief of the listener, then anything is possible."

Tom Waits would be perfect if Rubin can't do it 8)
Then they'll take you to Cloughprior and shove you in the ground. But you'll stick your head back out and shout "We'll have another round"

You know what? We had this idea ourselves about 3 years ago. Coincidence, huh? Our next thought was. "Yeah, Rick'll be in touch if he wants us."

So if I am reading you correctly, you are saying that if Rick Rubin calls the Pogues will do a new album??

Could be. Or not. The other condition is we will not spend months or even weeks on end in the studio. I rather fancy that clicks with Rick Rubin also.

Medusans, I propose that a letter writing campaign to Mr. Rubin is in order. Who is with me?

Philip, I would also like to suggest that perhaps Pogues management can get in touch with Mr. Rubin and invite him to a show on the west coast tour. Perhaps he'll make an offer once he sees the band.

Just to be clear, I am not associated with Rick Rubin in any way. I just think that he and Pogues working together would produce great results.
