Thanks, all! I have summers off so could do as I wished with my day. I made myself a from scratch lemon meringue birthday pie which I took over to my mom's and shared with several family members. I swam in my clothes (as my late sister used to do) with my other sister in the farm pond there before going out for Mexican food and a margarita for supper with my husband. It was a lovely day.

I'm really sorry I don't check in here as often as I should...happy terribly-belated birthday wishes, Esther!

I turn 50 today, but I'll be damned if I feel like it. Don't feel a day over 49.

Thanks for the wishes (you too, FH and Miss W!) I haven't bought any 78s as a present per se - the other day I bought Tampa Red doing "I Oughta Bite You" and Lonnie Johnson doing "Tomorrow Night" , and they may actually be waiting on my porch when I get home from work. My buddy Brownie gave me 6 Benny Goodman 78s last night to bolster the "Jazz" end of my collection, which is lagging behind the "Blues" and "Hillbilly" sectors. They're GREAT - one of them features the sublime Charlie Christian on guitar and Lionel Hampton on vibes - and they're NOT stuff I would've bought for myself.

My Sweetheart was dropping hints that she was going to buy me that 10-CD Hank Williams box set, but I asked her not to buy it, at least not yet, because I get such a kick out of buying 78s with Hank songs I've never heard before - it's like there are new Hank Williams records being released!
In fact, in a day or 2 there is an auction ending for a lot of 5 Hank 78s in excellent condition - most of which I haven't heard. THAT may be the birthday present I buy myself.

My Sweetie went out and got us Thai food for lunch, which made my belly very happy, and tonight friends are coming over to watch movies in our back yard. So, all in all, a very happy birthday, as long as I skim over the fact that I am OLD as DIRT!

You crazy yungin. I remember when I turned 36 way back in January. I thought I was so old, and king of the world. But now I know what _real_ age is, 'cause now I have six more month's experience. Woohoo!

Happy birthday guy!
