tis' the ol' story of loiking The Pogues vs. Shaneo & Popes.. why does it have to be vs? both stories feature Shaneo, both are outstandoing, some people moight loike one or the other more or less, and oi meself maybe expressed beeing closer to Shaneo's solo work but in essence it looses the meaning cause theres brilliant stuff in both stories; its often when oi speak of how much oi loike Shane's solo work woith the Popes and cause oi choose many of those songs to perform, people start to thoink "hey, how can smn love Shane & Popes more than The Pogues"; for me its not some quantity stuff.. tis' not loike oi love foirst 52% and second 48%.. that would be stupid; for example, oim throilled in the same way when oi loisten to Oif oi should fall from grace woith God and when oi loisten Mother Mo Chroi from Crock of Gold

now, Crock of Gold is pure expression gold oif ya ask me.. Rock 'n' Roll Paddy, Paddy Rolling Stone & No.1, Mother Mo Chroi, Lonesome Hoighway etc. and same goes for Snake.. just recall of Aisling, Victoria, Donegal Express, Church Of The Holy Spook, That Woman's Got Me Droinkin'...

oif smn asks me, oid loike to see both, 3rd solo album by Shaneo & 8th album of The Pogues 8) :D

I'd happily trade The Snake, Waiting For Herb, Crock of Gold and Pogue Mahone for a sixth Pogues album.

For the record, I prefer the Pogues without Shane to Shane without the Pogues. The Popes are just horrifically two dimensional far too much.

It was rumored that Shane had been writing songs for a new album called Twentieth Century Paddy (which I've read that it was suppose to containd contributions from the likes of Bono and others.) With the recent passing of Big Tom, maybe the album has been put on hold for awhile. However, being a huges Popes fan, here's hoping that some day that album will see the light of day. I remember when I first heard The Snake, I was completely blown away, I thought Shane's writing on that record was back to his usual standards. With the Crock of Gold, I thought his writing was again in top form. I know Shane still has it in him, so fingers crossed, hopefully one day a new Shane MacGowan solo album with come to pass.

i find crock of gold would of been a great album had 3-5 songs been left off and the running order sorted out, paddy public enemy, truck drivin man, skipping rhymes, mclennan, wandering star and joeys in america all could of been sacrificed

I'm not sure it is really necessary the first three tracks have the word "Paddy" in the title

I agree with you in some aspects. However, I find Paddy Public Enemy #1 to be one of Shane's best songs, I'm also rather fond of Joey's In America (great little instrumental,) and Skipping Rhymes.

"St John of Gods" is worth buying The Crock of gold alone.

Personally I think "Truck driving man" should have been left out as this song really, really bores me to death.

It grew tiresome the first time it was used. And most of the times, it's not even right. Putting and "o" in front of each "i" is not enough to get and Oirish accent. Some "i" don't take an "o", but he does it anyway. Try to say "woish" in a sentence...

And being an illiterate never made anybody cooler anyway... Sorry, I just had to get this out of my stomach. And I also had a rough day. ;)
