Pressure Drop A.K.A.

Post Sat May 19, 2007 4:18 pm

Ok, thought I just might tell something about my band.

Pressure Drop started back in November 2005. We played a Clashy punk-rock with loads of influences: from raw rockabilly to swing, travelling through blues, ska, reggae, rythm'n'blues and soul. Main influences: The Clash, The Specials, The Pogues and Billy Bragg. The line-up was Billie (bass&vocals), Andy (guitar, harmonica&backing vocals), Rob (drums&percussions). In April 2006 we recorded "Yalla Yalla Wart-Hog!!!" and never published it. It featured 9 tracks, with a couple covers: I Fought The Law and Doesn't Make It Alright (Specials).
A long pause followed, for Rob had to spend six months in Japan. When he came back, we started working on new songs, and added some covers to our act. Baba O'Riley (Who), a Redskin version of Billy Bragg's Levi Stubb's Tears and a folk-punk version of Delilah by Tom Jones. We even put in music a poem by Wystan Hugh Auden, "Refugee Blues".
A great moment was being the openers at a Potage gig. Potage are Como's oldest punk-band, formed in 1982, inspired by Ramones, Clash, Sex Pistols, Beatles, Jonathan Richman and to sixties Italian beat.
After that gig we decided to change direction, trying to do something folkier.
We recorded "Out of a Coma" (a tribute to Joe Strummer and The Clash) which was published in a Compilation, and "Delilah" and soon changed the line-up. I switched from bass to guitar, Andy started playing ukulele, intending to switch to mandolin as soon as he can afford one and Naska joined in as a bassist.
As a matter of fact I am a bassist and Naska a guitarist, so I play on his guitar and he plays on my bass!
The same line-up, but in acoustic version, is named The Men They Should've Hanged and played acoustic folk covers (Pogues, Eric Bogle, Nyah Fearties, Junkman's Choir and so on and so forth).
Now we're currently looking for an accordion player and putting on a new gig.
Our last gig featured only one of our songs ("A Star Called Henry", inspired by Roddy Doyle's novel) and loads of cover songs.

(Last gig a guy called Antisocial Micky, a drunken red-headed skinhead, spent half of our gig asking us to play "Streams of Whiskey")

here's a pic of our last gig. The air conditioning was turned off, and so...I sweated a lot more than usual!
Then they'll take you to Cloughprior
Shove you in the ground
But you'll stick your head back out and shout
"Let's have another round!"

And did you satisfy his pressing desire, or let him drown his frustration in streams of real whiskey? ;)

we promised Micky to play it next time. He said "It's going to be a madhouse, then!" and then started ranting about Shane being the most punk person on the whole of the world. When he told that I thought a lot 'bout OirishRover!

yeah, it whistles and feedbacks all the time, since the amplification is...errr...amateurish, let's say.
I also hope the accordion player we met at the gig will be interested in playin' with us. We really need someone as good as him.
