Post Tue May 01, 2007 3:03 am

Cranky George will be playing at Molly Malone's at 8.30 Friday May 4th (it's also Darryl's birthday). Molly Malone's is on Fairfax Avenue on the block north of 6th St, in Los Angeles.

Another Great Show!

Post Sat May 05, 2007 9:45 pm

Thank you for another great performance.

For those who could not make it, it was a well attended event and great music as usual.

Thanks, Cranky Fan. We were a bit under-rehearsed, maybe, but there was some spirit of digging-in, for the most part, I'd say. The addition of a foot-operated cymbal was a giddying excitement for me, and for Dermot too, I think, because he stamped the thing inside out after a couple of numbers.

We're booked to play a short residency, I suppose you'd call it, the first three Fridays in June (1st, 8th and 15th, at Molly Malone's) where we hope to mix it up a bit. Hope to see you there, at one or all of them.

Great News

Post Mon May 07, 2007 3:48 am

Brilliant! (news about the "residency").
We hope to make it to some of those shows, at least.

"Under-rehearsed" was not what came to mind by the way.
"Lively and energetic" - for sure.

Thank you again and keep the band working on that CD...

Best Regards.

James,

I've corresponded with you via PM's mostly (thank you again for taking the time to reply), but I wanted to say publicly how great CG was last Friday at Molly's. Way to go, James, Kieran, Dermot and Brad! You guys are the greatest, and Kieran, you sure play a mean fiddle! Lots of wonderful music and banter among yourselves and the audience made for a terrific evening. The only thing wrong was that it didn't last long enough and, Dermot, I'm afraid I lost track of which number we were on somewhere along the way. Doesn't matter - I loved 'em all!

James, those of us who are planning on being with you again on June 1 will try and bone up on our Spanish bullfighters between now and then, or do I mean bullsh---ers?

Well done.

Excellent show, James. If you could see out that far, I was the tall, sportcoated gentleman eyeing your accordion-playing with an almost creepy intensity. In order to join the band that has Thursday night's residency at Molly Malone's ("The Mighty Regis"), I'm learning the accordion, and was intent on seeing how a real player does it. Should we ever record an album, I'll be sure to thank you in the liner notes. Cheers.

JT has been urging me to go down to see the Mighty Regis of a thursday, and I either can't or just plain forget. How's the residency going there, or aren't you playing with them yet, if you're learning to play the accordion, as I understand from your post?

No, I couldn't pick anyone out, except when my friend Heather came in a red dress and stood under a ceiling spot at the back. It's generally too dark out there.

Hope to meet you when we play in June.

That'd be Dieter from Dieter's Dance Party? Were there others?

The shows on Thursday are going quite well, thank you. I don't play with them yet, but still show up to lend support and toss back a few on a Thursday night. JT's put together a good lineup, what with Regis and The Dirges.

I'm currently taking lessons at "Dave's Accordion School." Dave's a great guy, really knows his stuff. We spent last week breaking down "Boys From County Hell;" damn, you're fast.

Cheers.

Yeah he was there, and Lieutnant Dangle and Oswald have been there for a lot of shows as well.
