I sometimes wonder what Shane thinks when people attribute DOT to him.

I guess it must be the same for others who've covered songs written by other people, too. Or for singers who do songs by that well-known author "trad".

Mind you, it must be even more annoying if you've written your own song and people assume it's a "trad" song. I'm sure I was listening to someone talking about that recently. Probably some folkie...

It's like when people say they love that Christy Moore song Faithful Departed. Happens all the time.

I get annoyed when I mention James Blunt to people. I just do. In fact I'm getting annoyed now. His publicist has just announced that, "he's now hard at work in Los Angeles on his new album."

But back to Shane. Isn't he the one with those horrible teeth, and is always drunk, cannot sing properly etc? I blame that bad crowd he runs round with.

I've got very annoyed over each of the last three Xmases when nobody in the office can understand why I am as excited as a pig in shit when I say I've got Pogues tickets (and I mention it a lot, obviously). They look at me like I've just said "I'm so excited! I'm going to the Spandau Ballet reunion concert! And Sinitta is supporting them!"

Fucking philistines. I hate them. Eff 'em all.

I always thought this must be one of the biggest compliments one can get cos that would mean that the song must be so good to have survived lots and lots of years.

When me and my former band played our very first gig (which was part of a festival and we merely did nine songs), one of the songs we played was an original song from me. Afterwards some people came up to me and told me that they couldn´t tell which one was the "odd-one out". Maybe they didn´t mean it that way, maybe they felt that my song was lacking some kind of originality, but to me it was some sort of compliment, really.

Actually that's a very perceptive comment, Duke. And I think it was Billy Bragg that I heard saying something similar recently. So you're in good company there. 8) :)
