Lyrics for various songs

Post Wed Dec 10, 2003 7:24 am

I've searched the web a few times for lyrics to "Under Clery's Clock" and "Kitty Ricketts" with no luck. Any chance these lyrics -- or other Radiators songs -- are out there?

Huh - I can't find any either

Post Wed Dec 10, 2003 11:34 pm

We all know that if something isn't on the Internet then it doesn't exist.

Logical conclusion - there are no lyrics for Radiators From Space songs. They're an instrumental only band!

Thanks for the tabbed songs. "Faithful Departed" lyrics turned up on Christy Moore sites, but this is the first I've seen of tabs.

With your patience, I might try this question a different way. Here's what I've garnered from some close listening to "Kitty Ricketts" and that's not much yet. (I should explain that I've only known about the Radiators from Space for about six months, hence my unfamiliarity with the lyrics.) If anyone can fill in the blanks or correct what I thought I'd heard, that would be much appreciated.

Kitty Ricketts
P. Chevron, 1979

They disembark
On All Soul’s Night
Like penny candles
For the sweet repose.

(Something Something)
Fortune Tellers.
(Something)
and (something) sellers.

Dearly loved, but soon forgotten
(something something)
My darling rose!

Such simple faith is really all it takes
To rid the land of snakes
And speed them on their way to hell
But it could never break Kitty Ricketts’ spell.

Chorus:

She is handsome, she is pretty
She is the girl that (something) the City
Oh please, can you tell me who is she?

Kitty Ricketts
You’re not there
But I can touch your hair
Kitty Ricketts
One, Two, Three
You’re a ghost, but I don’t care.

She’s a carnal joy
For nighttown boys
Whose five o:clock shadow begins at Midnight.

Hot (something)
Savage Dreamers.
Hot, scalding
Soul redeemers.

She’s a (something)
For kings and poets.
Poets?
(Something) You should see the things they write!

But say that as you make (something)
Your soul’s delight
You can fall in love tonight
But you’ll never walk the streets of Paradise.

(Spoken) Revel on, boys:

She is handsome, she is pretty
She is the girl that (something) the City
Oh please, can you tell me who is she?

Kitty Ricketts
You’re not there
But I can touch your hair.
Kitty Ricketts
One, Two, Three
You’re a ghost, but I don’t care.

Through the boulevards of Dublin
She still walks among the City lights
What a pity. It’s all too (something)
(Something) A rickety Kitty.

(Something, something)
And the Saturday night delights.
The town clock tells the last week’s time.
What the hell!
She got all the time in the world
To fall in love tonight.
But you’ll never walk the streets of Paradise

No, you’ll never walk the streets of Paradise

But you can fall in love tonight.

This is the chorus (or at least is very similar to) from a traditional song - "I'll Tell Me Ma."

http://scottishparodies.tripod.com/lyri ... /id41.html

Chorus
I'll tell me ma when I get home
The boys won't leave the girls alone
They pull my hair, they steal my comb
But that's all right till I get home
She is handsome, she is pretty
She is the belle of Belfast city
She is courting one, two, three
Hey, won't you tell me, who is he?

Lyrics

There are all lyrics for the second Radiators LP in the Booklet of the Ghostown CD (Chiswick, 1989). I sold it when I got the Cockles & Mussles CD

The chorus calling up the older "Tell Me Ma" is one of the things that helped me with that section. But there's obviously a twist in the traditional lyrics in "Kitty Ricketts" (no doubt a sinister twist).

Sorry to not have responded back in February, but I did visit the site recommended in looking for those lyrics. Just thought of it all again when Halloween brought the song back into my heavy-play Mp3 list.

What I heard when listening to the song...

Post Sat Sep 23, 2006 6:28 pm

Hi! I came across your post when I was searching for information on the song (heard it on a Live365 Station) myself. I'm not a member of this site, so I hope my post comes through (and that I'm helpful).

She is handsome, she is pretty
She is the girl that (something) the City
Oh please, can you tell me who is she?

What I heard listening to the song is "she is the girl from Strumpet City", which would make sense when put with the rest of the Lyrics.

She’s a (something)
For kings and poets.
Poets?
(Something) You should see the things they write!

What I heard is "Poets? They're mad men! You should see the things they write!"

I hope this helps- Believe me, you picked out alot more than I did! :)

It's

She's a carnal joy for Night Town boys
whose five O'clock shadow begins at midnight
(Heartwarming for savage dreamers
heartscalding for soul redeemers)
She's an apron string for kings and poets
Poets? Madmen!!
You should see the things they write!!
Well they say that as you make your bed
so must you lie
and you could fall in love tonight
But you'll never walk the streets of paradise.

The full lyric is among the Ghostown album lyrics on the Radiators site:

The guy's been trying to sell this for 3 or 4 years. I'm glad he finally has a taker. I never understand why punk paper ephemera fetches such a high price. It's only a contract, I don't think it even has any of the Radiators' signatures on it. If it has any historic value at all, it's only that it was our first gig in the UK (in Sept 77) and the Vortex was itself hyped as the "new" Roxy. We played the Roxy twice that week as well. Apparently Crass supported us on one of those shows and, apparently, "Banned From The Roxy" is about that show though, as I never caught the opening band even then, I wouldn't know.
