Is that an euphemism?

Why does the use of "an" sound odd there? Am I screwing up my grammar again?

It's not exactly a grammar problem, but yes, "an euphemism" definitely sounds wrong. In simple terms it's because, of course, although "euphemism" starts with a vowel, which would normally predict an "an" to precede it, because it's pronounced "yoo-phemism" (hey, phonetics seems to be the new Medusan craze...) the "n" on the end of the indefinite article is superfluous. As it would be in, say, "an European", or "an year", or "an you better stop rambling now, firehazard".

Thanks. I thought it seemed wrong, but with all the discussion of language, I wanted to be on my best behavior. I erred on what seemed correct as opposed to what sounded correct. Here are my knuckles. Ruler smack time.

And Clodagh....there's always room for rubbing.

They could've earned a euro or two..

But they opened Rathlin's at 7... When all the Bars in the neighborhood were already drunk dry...

What?? The Pogues are in town???

Well...that's no reason to give the people Irish beer...

Strange...

But all in all a great night in Muenster !!!
