You really should know better, Rich, if only from sources closer to home. For three whole decades, the Pogues have been universally described and cherished as an "Irish" band, despite the fact that half the band claimed and claims no Irish nationality or parentage at all. Even in recent weeks, as my accordion-playing colleague set out on his Dickens-like reading tour, his flat Lancashire vowels have boomed though several PA systems, astonishing those who, at the very least, expected a charming Brogue.

For a few years, at the beginning, we took every opportunity to correct this impression of the Pogues until eventually, we just retired defeated. Because what, in the end, did it matter? The majority of us have no particular national or Nationalist allegiances whatever. If people wanted to call us an "Irish" band, we could quite see why and continuing to protest the label risked making a bigger issue of it than it ever actually was to any of us.

For myself, the self-description as a Citizen of the World predates my association with the Pogues and has, more or less, especially with the prolonged globe-trotting that has marked my recovery from serious illness, happily become something of a self-fulfilling prophecy anyhow. If someone wants to call me a Kenyan, it would probably raise a wry smile from my mother at best.

I have, over a 41 year career, been misrepresented in more press releases and potted biogs than I could count, released on my behalf. I could spend half an afternoon correcting errors or I could get on with my life. I daresay if I were running for the Senate, I would feel pretty much the same. Trouble with conspiracy theorists is that they apparently have the luxury of excess time, so are quite happy to waste it.

Sorry the Daily Telegraph is not "mainstream" enough for you. Believe me when I tell you that to us in the UK, the venerable old rag is all too mainstream. But as neither breitbart.com or the Telegraph's own looney tune Tim Stanley can muster the energy to even pretend this "news story" still has legs, I am taking it upon myself to call this particular Parrot deceased.

Nobody accused BO of lying anywhere nor was there any mention of him getting loans or grants, whether through deception or otherwise.

Rich, believe it or not, this story has had plenty of media exposure in its various forms, including its present one as the Obama Publicist Cockup designed to make the client more "exotic". I can't say whether you consider it's had enough Mainstream Meeja coverage or not: your exclusion of a 150-year old Establishment-oriented British newspaper from that category renders your judgement moot on this in any case.

But what I think is being asked of you is how exactly you have managed to link this story to your very grave allegations about "the facts that he deceived people into getting loans and or grants because BO lied about it".
