Roger & Me is great. I forgot about Fahrenheit 9/11. The thing is his documentaries can afford to buy the actual footage of events such as the Columbine mass shooting or W. Bush sitting there in that elementary class, doing nothing in response to the 9/11 attacks. He has his agenda, but I’m not sure I agree with those that say he outright manipulates his subject matter. That’s just an easy way to write off the entire content of his films. I’ve heard people say that they don’t like his gonzo-jump out at them approach to some of his interview subjects. What? These people are praying nobody has the nerve to question their conduct.

He was something of an American folk hero back in the day, really.

When he went on the Oprah show to promote Sicko he exposed her for the gasbag that she is. I remember her saying how she never thought about other people not having medical insurance, it simply never crossed her mind. Moore gave her the look. Even her cult of an audience was aghast. He didn’t even really have to try.

Roger & Me really is such a good movie. Ain’t nothin’ changed.

I’ll be the annoying guy that points out that so long you’re putting out a documentary you’re manipulating your audience / the subject. Sadly there’s no such thing as a documentary as we like to think (a true representation of something real). Every choice the director makes, is (mostly) consciously made to artificially create a certain reaction in the audience.

Mr. Moore is particularly good at this. Not saying his films are bad or that I don’t like some of them. But he’s really good at making you think and feel what he wants you to think and feel, which is not necessarily the whole picture...

My point was that the viewer who completely forgoes the content of a Michael Moore documentary is approaching said work with their own preconceptions and ideologies along with a certain level of self admiration and conceit.

Like I said, he’s able to gather a lot of actual footage of American subjects and events and that alone has intrinsic value. Obviously he’s using it to effectively paint a certain picture. Still, the security video recorded at Columbine High School with the students rushing from one side of the library to the other to avoid the shooters tells its own story within the film.

Just found out that he is the Francis son of another Francis, like me. It is beyond our control. 8)

In good news, after 22 days in hospital, Ms. Faithful has recovered sufficiently to go home.

Good for her. I had her A Child’s Adventure album back in the day and always loved it.

Isn’t this a picture of her, Mick and the guy who committed necrophilia in children’s hospitals when not molesting small children, teenagers, senior citizens, hospital workers and the physically and mentally challenged? He is sucking on her hair, ewww.

Yup that's her. Gosh a few years with Mick really aged her... :D

Truth is she was basically a child when she started her career, which is an unfortunate image of oneself to have to be forever compared to.

In celebration of her recovery and in mourning of Hal Wilner's death, i watched "Blazing Away", the film of a 1989 concert at St. Anne's NYC, with lighting as dark as a Pogues film:

She smokes throughout. Wilner spoiled her with Garth Hudson on keyboards & accordion AND Dr. John on piano?! Dr. John's solo in "Sister Morphine" is amazing. Lew Soloff on trumpet is probably the star of the band on the night, though.

The Canadian military has mobilized troops over the last several weeks... to provide staff for long-term care homes in Ontario & Quebec! So this is a military deployment I can 100% support.

Hah, i was wondering but just assumed, looking at that 40-foot personality, that it was something like the latter.
