On the news here in England, they're saying Trump has fired the Attorney General...can you Americans provide details and opinions on this for me please?

She was going to be gone in two days anyways.

In which case, why didn't he wait? My knowledge of US politics is obviously very inexpert, but from this side of the Atlantic the instant dismissal of a public servant for apparently doing her job, and the language about "betrayal" sound disturbingly dictatorial.

A lot of what we all have previously known about US politics was apparently based on an artifice of unwritten traditions and norms of civility, so you are doing about as well as any of us now. Hitherto, we haven't had a President fire an acting Attorney General days before his own AG was due to be sworn in. That is probably because hitherto, we haven't had an AG refuse to defend the President's executive order. That is because we haven't had a President rush to sign a shoddy cruel and unconstitutional executive order before he could even get his team in place.

Well, now that a judge has dared impose a nationwide hold on Donald Trump's ban on travellers and immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries (siding with two states that had challenged the executive order that has launched legal battles across the country), giving the legal opinion that "the state has met its burden in demonstrating immediate and irreparable injury", and evaluating that their case is likely to succeed.... Trump's response is to call the learned, U.S. District Judge James Robart, a "so-called judge" and the ruling "ridiculous".

So yes, he doesn't brook what he sees as insubordination very well at all (incidentally, it is of course theoretically not the job of the so-called judiciary to be obedient or disobedient, but of course to be dispassionate interpreters of the law and - most importantly - the constitution).

Meanwhile, multiple media are reporting how Howard Stern, a friend of Trump's, apparently warned him that the presidency would be bad for his mental health because of his desire to be liked (ie: extreme narcissism).

Could be, or it could be the fact that he confused the people of Sweden with those comments, confused EVERYBODY with his comments about the non-existent Bowling Green massacre, confused the media by accusing them of not reporting a long list of terror attacks (that they did, in fact, overwhelmingly over-report on), but yet he has never mentioned out loud the recent massacre of 7 praying Muslims in Quebec by a ... white, ethnically christian man!

Guess that one was more his kind of terror.
