Token woman.
Will make women want to give up rights to birth control, abortion choice, equal pay and...
Boy howdy!

I believe she'd do it. This is the woman who was shoe shopping, attending Spamalot and taking pro tennis lessons during Hurricane Katrina while dead Americans floated down the streets of New Orleans.

Fuck her.

Not the like the Dems ever had a VP candidate with questionable character-I mean John Edwards is only facing 30 years in prison...

If you see those two things as even remotely the same that's your choice.
Nobody that heartless should be in office. None of them. Ever.

I didn't like Edwards from the instant he said he cared more about women's issues than any other Democratic candidate. Good one.

Does anyone have an opinion on the controversy being created by conservatives in response to Obama's ad suggesting Romney would not have taken out Bin Laden if he was in Obama's shoes at the time?

Although I tend to be more liberal minded, I try hard to keep my mind open as much as possible and not jump in with any given agenda. My vote is has never been assured to any party in the past. That said, the incredible and constant displays of hypocrisy and massive spin by the conservative media makes it next to impossible to not run far away from the republican party. I cannot fathom how so many of them get elected with the nonsense they spit out.

I haven't really been following it, other than that Obama evidently released a web-ad that basically used Romney's words to say "Obama killed bad guy; Romney wouldn't have."

I understand the Romney words are out of context and paint half the picture, so it seems pretty much standard election year advertising.

That aside, it seems silly that ANY politician would imply that any OTHER politician wouldn't have taken that strike if the roles had been shuffled. ANY US president would have taken that opportunity unless the fallout from it was a result of a retaliatory nuclear strike,

Even if McCain was president? If so, why are you calling him a liar?

I mostly agree, except for the fact that some people in that position might be less likely to do it right then for fear of taking American lives. I am also not down with taking statements out of context, but I likely would never have known about the ad if the conservatives didn't cry so loudly over it. On inspection, the same people crying foul cross that line much more often and loudly so their outrage is hard to take seriously.

Obama: 'I think same-sex couples should be able to get married

I can see the conservative response now... "Obama's comment will lead to Rainbow's painted on the White House and the use of the Oval Office for sodomy sessions"
And I don't want no grave
Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save

It's about fucking time.

I can't tell you how many people believed this already was the case last election, despite his own website stating that he only believed in broad, robust(?) Gay rights and Civil Unions. And let me tell you, it wasn't his picture they put above that information either. They stamped her face on that one. BS!

Anyways, good one O'Biden. Way to force the issue. :D +1

Yes, sometimes a bull-in-a-china-shop Vice President can be a useful ally. And I don't doubt the GOP will be all over this like scabies, turning it into a key general election issue. However, I believe they will have miscalculated, not for the first time. If he is nothing else, Obama is a reforming president, even against all odds. The American people, give or take a dying demographic, have rapidly caught up with progressive thought here and, if anyone can sell this as a Civil Rghts issue, this President can. Not because he is black and therefore carries that historical narrative within him, but because there's not a leader in the world more capable of addressing thorny issues and turning them into what I believe are now called "teachable moments". His response to the Jeremiah Wright business, after all, far from ending his campaign in 2008, revealed him as a serious and thoughtful man who had more than enough substance to do the job well.

And if marriage equality is anything, it's a civil rights matter. Attempts to turn it into a wedge issue are bound to fail. Welcome back to the Oval Office, Mr President.

As an added bonus, the truly vile Liz Cheney will be pushed backi into her cage for most of the remaining campaign.

Fox news' initial website headline on this was the Obama "Declares War on Marriage" but I think they changed it later.

Not that it would have affected the outcome, but it would have been nice if he had made this statement BEFORE the North Carolina referendum. Better late than never, though.

The beer summit was meant to be a teachable moment though Professor Gates is on record as saying that he hasn't had a chance to really speak with the cop yet. I didn't realize that he'd been a witness in the 2 Live Crew obscenity trial. When ol' Tipper Gore and the PMRC got all bent that white suburban kids were hearing naughty words and stuff. I <3 Professor Gates, can't a man return from hanging with Yo Yo Ma in China without drama!? I especially loved how they tossed Biden in there so that the summit would be a shade more equal in the photos. And old, I suppose. Idiotic.

I always wanted Obama to tell people that yes, indeed.. he did attend a Black church and to just STFU and get right with their own church. He wasn't supposed to support the Black community? I might rewatch A More Perfect Union. I do like that he dictated it.

It really bothered me that the Obama website had Michelle giving the bitter pill regarding Gay marriage in the past. Let's have the pretty lady break the bad news...

Trying to find a screenshot of Michelle talking about Barack's support of Civil Unions I came across some goofy anti Obama website that states that the Obamas first date was a movie, Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing. The site was all up in arms about what happens to the pizzaria. LoL. The future Obamas were supposed to ignore amazing Black directed movies too?

Side note: I swear to God if Romney splashes his mug all over another Celtics game I am going to lose it.

No seriously, America's first Black president legalizes Gay marriage? I might recover faith in the system and voting and all that stuff... if i lived in the US, and not under "George Bush Jr. Jr." here in Canada!

Well, he has no authority to legalize anything so you might have to wait on your faith recovery there.

Well, thank goodness for that!

Still, saying that publically BEFORE the next election was bold, good for him, and good-er for Biden. Like Frances said: "About fucking time!"
