This is a strange law, why does the Captain get banned? why dont the whole team suffer?

I think the idea is that they make the captain bear ultimate responsibility for making sure that the team keeps up with the over rate. In fact, in this case, the rest of the team are also being punished with a fine of a percentage of their match fee, though apparently Collingwood gets to keep all of his because he can't be punished twice for the same offence.

And apparently the umpires had been warning the team about it all through the latter part of the NZ innings. I'd agree with you that it would be better to have some sanction during the match (deduction of runs or something, if it could be worked out sensibly) than fining them after.

Oh dear. :(

Records go as Kiwis thrash Irish

New Zealand made a 400-plus score for the first time in one-day cricket as they thrashed Ireland by 290 runs in one of the most one-sided matches ever... [more]

Simon Jones in the CBE&W 30 man squad. Without a doubt the move to Worcs has been a help.

Glad to see him back in contention. Not sure quite what they've done with him at Worcs, but it certainly seems to have worked. Actually I'd have liked to see him in the team for next week's Test against SA. But the England selectors don't seem to like making changes these days.

I'm off down to Chelmsford tomorrow for the FPT semi-final against Yorkshire...

Cheers, Aled. It was a great day! All hinged on another remarakable bit of hitting by Graham Napier.
And a Lord's final to come... wouldn't have believed that was going to happen at the start of the season.

And now a T20 QF tonight against Northants Steelboks...

And then it's Glam v Essex over next weekend.

Cheers, Aled! And you have to remember that Essex this season seem to be a whole lot of a better team at the one-day stuff than they are at Championship cricket. Packed with all-rounders, no depth of batting. And Napier doesn't even play in the four-day game this season. So I wouldn't rule you out.

Pretty decisive win against the Steelboks last night to put us into the T20 finals day. Two in one season is way beyond expectation.

Glamorgan had a good run of one day success in the early 00's with two championships, and a top spot promotion from Division2. Maybe its Essex turn for some silverware.

I'm not sure that we're good enough to actually win anything this season. Just maybe one of the one-dayers, with a bit of luck.

And I see Glammy are in the T20 quarter-finals after all: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket ... 506368.stm
That was a surprise. Hope you can get through to finals day.

Well we got a resultfrom somewhere against Essex on Monday, maybe fate is on our side at the moment.
Good luck Essex. Cheers

Hard luck last night, Aled, so it wasn't to be Glamorgan's year in the T20 after all.

Interesting that the ECB are allowing Durham to play Collingwood on Finals day, but aren't allowing either Essex or Middlesex to play their centrally contracted players.

Ok, Essex should never allow Ali Cook anywhere near their T20 XI, but it seems a typically arbitrary decision. Hmm.

Had a very hot and sunny day yesterday watching Essex play Glorstershyre (la la la) at Chelmsford. Feeling a bit burnt today. Cricket in the sun. 8)

Certain players at Glam are not leading by example. I've been a big fan of Alex Wharf over the years, he's single handedly won games for Glamorgan before now, and i still believe he should of had more England 1 day caps. He seems very quiet at the moment though. There's me picking on him and he's not the only one!
Worcs turned us over easliy, again! And Durham were only sweating for the first few overs.
Its going to be one long season. Keep at em Firehazard you at Essex are going very well.
Cheers

Congratulations, Aled! It's a long time since Glam have won one of those, glad to see you've done it at last. And always glad to see Surrey being turned over anyway. 8)

Yeah, it's a big day tomorrow, thanks for the good wishes... I'm not sure, to be honest, if Essex will get past Kent in the semi. But if we do, then anything can happen.
